Exterior 2 6 2The M3’s retractable roof is far more than justa steel version of a softtop. When raised, the fullroofliner effectively insulates the interior againstcold and exterior noise. At the push of a buttonon the center console, a motor electrohydraulicallybegins the process of lowering the top. First, theroof is separated into three sections, which thensmoothly move towards the rear and stack oneabove the other. At the same time, the trunk lidunlocks at the front and swings up. The stackedroof sections are lowered into a special storagecompartment; the trunk lid closes. Total timefrom top-up to top-down: 22 seconds. The trunkcan now be opened from the back, and gentlyclosed using the soft-close feature.The roof can also be raised and lowered by usingthe key fob buttons when the M3 Convertible isequipped with Comfort Access. This option alsoincludes the Comfort Opening and Loading feature:to stow large packages in the trunk whenthe top is down, a touch of the remote buttonraises the stacked roof up and conve niently outof the way, letting you access more trunk space;another press lowers it back down.
