He is a native of south Texaswhose grandparents and father were Mexican immigrantsthat emigrated to the U.S. during the Mexican Revolution of1910-1920. His doctoral dissertation focused on the imagoDei construct as a venue for an ethical response to the plightof undocumented immigrants in the U.S., a subject he haswritten on extensively.Alittle self-disclosure is in order here. I would like to createa geographical image in your mind so as to give you areference point for this topic on the imago Dei and howthis life-embodying and life-affirming doctrine of the churchmight help us to value and affirm the human dignity of the mostmarginalized among us, and specifically the Hispanic and LatinAmerican immigrants of our communities. 1 I have a particularinterest in this topic as a focus of ministry as I am the son of immigrantparents and grandparents who left Mexico for south Texasduring the Mexican Revolution of 1910-1920.
