Tom van den boschHEAD COACHTom Van Den Bosch has been the volleyball coach at <strong>Dordt</strong><strong>College</strong> since 1997 and holds a 374-82 collegiate coachingrecord at <strong>Dordt</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Van Den Bosch is the coachingwins leader at <strong>Dordt</strong> <strong>College</strong> and has coached the Defenders to six NAIAnational tournament appearances.Van Den Bosch has coached the Defenders to six regular season GreatPlains Athletic Conference championships including a run of three straightunbeaten conference records in 2003, 2004 and 2005. The Defendervolleyball <strong>program</strong> has qualified for the NAIA national tournamentquarterfinal round four times under Van Den Bosch and once for thesemifinal round in 2003. The Defenders also qualified for the NAIA regionaltournament 14 straight seasons including every season under Van Den Bosch.With the advent of direct qualification in 2008 that streak will end.Van Den Bosch is a member of the Iowa High School <strong>Volleyball</strong> Coaches Hallof Fame and was named the NAIA national coach of the year in 2003. He hasrun several youth and high school camps during his coaching career and hasbeen a guest clinician on several occasions. Van Den Bosch also works in the<strong>Dordt</strong> <strong>College</strong> admissions department.TRACI HIEMSTRAAssistant VARSITY COACHTraci Hiemstra is a 2007 <strong>Dordt</strong> <strong>College</strong> graduate and playedfour years as defensive specialist in the Defender <strong>program</strong>.Hiemstra holds the school record for digs per gameaverage with 5.9 and played three seasons of libero for the Defenders. Shewas a member of two NAIA regional champion teams that also qualified forthe NAIA national tournament. Hiemstra is a Western Christian High Schoolgraduate and will work with the defensive specialists and serve as assistantvarsity coach.samantha zomerJUNIOR VARSITY COACHZomer played one year of volleyball at Morningside in 2003and averaged 10.82 assists per game in that one season.She went on to graduate from Augustana (South Dakota)with a BSN and currently works as a nurse at the Orange City Area HealthSystem. Zomer is a graduate of Sioux Falls Christian High School and earnedsecond team all-state honors. She has coached AAU volleyball for threeseasons and will work with the <strong>Dordt</strong> <strong>College</strong> setters and will be the juniorvarsity coach.Stacy BervigTEAM MANAGERAmber De KoekkoekTEAM MANAGERKristin De RondeSENIOR-Oskaloosa, IowaKristin was named all-GPAC honorable mention in 2007 andwas a first-team all-conference and second team all-NAIARegion III selection in 2006. Coming off an ACL injury, sheled the team in kills per game for the second straight season (3.78) and hadher best kill efficiency of her college career at .288 in 2007 and was in on115 blocks. De Ronde had a season high 26 kills and nine blocks in a GPACtournament match win over Briar Cliff on November 3. Graduated from PellaChristian (Iowa) where she earned all-state honors during her high schoolcareer.Jessica De StigterFRESHMAN-Sioux Center, IowaSet the Western Christian (Iowa) Wolfpack to a statechampionship in 2006 and 2007 and was named to the allclass,Iowa Elite All-State team in 2007. Was a second-teamClass 2A Iowa All-State honoree in 2006 and was a two-time first team All-Lakes Conference selection. Played in the annual Iowa High School CoachesAll-Star Game in Carroll last November.steph goslingaSOPHOMORE-Orange City, IowaWas a member of both the varsity and junior varsity teamsin her freshman season. In 57 varsity games, Steph had 11total kills and 171 assists (3 per game). She also recorded18 aces and served for a 93 percent success rate. Set for Unity Christian(Iowa) and graduated in 2006 after earning all-War Eagle Conference honorsand helped the Knights to a state tournament appearance.dorinda hibmaSOPHOMORE-Sioux Center, IowaEarned second team all-conference honors as a freshmanand was also named NAIA Libero of the Week on October11, 2007. Dorinda was one of four Defenders to play inevery game in 2007 and she led the team in service aces (44), serviceattempts (583), and digs (801)-a 5.45 per game average. Got to 44 digsagainst Briar Cliff on September 21, 2007 and recorded 41 digs againstthe same team on October 13. Played outside hitter for Unity Christian(Iowa) during her high school career. Was an all-conference honoree beforegraduating in 2006.Krista HorstmanFRESHMAN-Pella, IowaAveraged 2.4 kills per game in 2007 with a kill efficiencyof .270 while earning honorable-mention all-state honorsfor Pella Christian (Iowa) and second-team all-conferencehonors in 2007. Horstman also claimed honorable mention all-conferencehonors as a junior and earned the 2007-2008 Iowa Girls High SchoolExcellence in Academic Achievement Award. Played both outside andrightside hitter for Pella Christan and helped them earn a trip to the Class2A state semifinals where they finished the season with a 32-10 record.elin hughesFRESHMAN-Weatherford, TexasHughes was a second-team all-district pick in 2006 and afirst-team all-district pick in 2007 for Weatherford High School(Texas). Earned a runner-up finish in district play in 2007.cassie huizengaJUNIOR-Orange City, IowaCompeted in 53 games in 20 matches as a sophomore in2007. Cassie had 12 assists, 23 digs, 218 serves, and 13aces for the varsity squad, while also setting for the juniorvarsity team. As a freshman, she totaled 41 digs, 26 assists, and 24 aces atthe varsity level and averaged 9.3 assists per game in JV matches. Preppedat MOC Floyd Valley High School (Iowa) where she earned All-SiouxlandConference and all-state honors before graduating in 2006.LADY defender VOLLEYBALL profiles
