Coaches and Team Managers are sensitive to differences in power betweenthemselves and others, and they do not exploit or mislead people during or after their coachingrelationships.Principle F: Responsible CoachingCoaches and Team Managers are aware of their ethical responsibilities to the community andthe society, in which they work and live. <strong>The</strong>y apply and make public their knowledge of sport inorder to contribute to human welfare. Coaches and Team Managers try to avoid misuse of theirwork. Coaches and Team Managers comply with the law and encourage the development of lawand policies that serve the interest of sport.Ethical StandardsA. GENERAL STANDARDS<strong>The</strong>se General Standards are applicable to the activities of all coaches.1. THE APPLICABILITY OF THE ETHICS CODEWhile many aspects of personal behavior and private activities seem far removed fromofficial duties of coaching, all Coaches and Team Managers should be sensitive to theirpositions as role models for their athletes. Private activities perceived as immoral or illegalcan influence the coaching environment, and Coaches and Team Managers are expected touphold standards of this Ethics Code consistently.2. BOUNDARIES OF COMPETENCECoaches and Team Managers should provide services only within the boundaries of theircompetence based on education, experience, study, training, supervision, and/or consultationfrom persons within <strong>American</strong> <strong>Legion</strong> Baseball.3. MAINTAINING EXPERTISECoaches and Team Managers maintain a reasonable level of awareness of related coachinginformation and undertake ongoing efforts to maintain competence in the skills they use.4. BASIS FOR PROFESSIONAL JUDGMENTSCoaches and Team Managers rely on scientifically and professionally desired knowledgewhen making judgments or when engaging in coaching endeavors.5. DESCRIBING THE NATURE OF COACHING SERVICESWhen Coaches and Team Managers provide services or information to an individual, agroup, or an organization, they use language that is reasonably understandable and appropriateto the recipient of those services and information that is always current and true.6. RESPECTING OTHERSCoaches and Team Managers respect the rights of others to hold values, attitudes, engage inor condone opinions that differ from their own, but will actively discourage discriminatorybehavior.7. NONDISCRIMINATIONCoaches and Team Managers do not engage in discrimination based on age, gender, race,ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, language, socioeconomicstatus, or any basis prescribed by law.8. HARASSMENTCoaches and Team Managers do not engage in or condone behavior that is harassing ordemeaning to persons with whom they interact in their work including, but not limited to,the following factors: a person’s age, gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexualorientation, disability, language or socioeconomic status.
