Aquatic ProgramsSwim Lesson Registration Procedures1. Swim lesson participants may only sign up forone session at a time, but may register for multiplesessions during <strong>the</strong> summer.2. Participants must successfully complete allrequirements for one level before entering <strong>the</strong> next.Participants who are currently enrolled and wishto register for ano<strong>the</strong>r session <strong>of</strong> swim instruction,may do so on <strong>the</strong> Wednesday before <strong>the</strong> last day<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> session that you are enrolled in at <strong>the</strong> time.3. Registration, transfers and waiting list transactionsmay be done in person at <strong>the</strong> Parks andRecreation Office or by telephone. (Visa, Discover,American Express and MasterCard accepted).4. No one will automatically be placed on a waitinglist. Parents must request to be put on a waitinglist through <strong>the</strong> Parks and Recreation Office. Waitlist participants will be notified if vacancies becomeavailable on a first come, first serve basis.Refunds will not be made for participants. However,funds may be transferred or placed on accountfor ano<strong>the</strong>r swim lesson session or o<strong>the</strong>r Parks andRecreation activity.5. Availability <strong>of</strong> upcoming classes is not guaranteedas registration is on going throughout <strong>the</strong>summer.6. Classes without a minimum <strong>of</strong> six may be combinedwith o<strong>the</strong>r classes or canceled.7. Swim Lesson registration is not available online.Swim Class Level DescriptionGuppy/Turtle (Parent-Tot): 6 months - 36 months.Parents or adult age 14 and older accompanies <strong>the</strong>child in <strong>the</strong> water.Starfish (Preschool): 3 - 5 years. Parents or adultsupervision required for children age 3. Emphasiswill be on learning basic skills, holding breath,and floating. Infant Toddler and Preschool classesintend to develop in young children a high comfortlevel in and around <strong>the</strong> water and a readiness toswim. These courses do not teach children to beaccomplished swimmers or to survive in <strong>the</strong> water.Beginner Diving: Prerequisite: age 8 and over,swim 25 yards, and feel comfortable in deep water.Duck (Level I): Water Exploration - Become orientedto aquatic environment.Otter (Level II): Primary Skills - Prerequisite: LevelI certificate or demonstrated competency in Level Iskills.Dolphin (Level III): Stroke Readiness - Prerequisite:Level II certificate or demonstrated competency inLevel II skills.Shark (Level IV): Stroke Development - Prerequisite:Level III certificate or demonstrated competencyin Level III skills.Marlin (Level V): Stroke Refinement - Prerequisite:Level IV certificate or demonstrated competency inLevel IV skills.Killer Whale (Level VI): Skill Pr<strong>of</strong>iciency - Prerequisite:Level V certificate or demonstrated competencyin Level V skills.Group Swim LessonsClasses meet Monday through Friday for 45 minutesexcept for Guppy/Turtle (Parent-Tot) which isonly 30 minutes. Class size varies between 6 to10children, depending on <strong>the</strong> level <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> class.Fee: $38; $25 with <strong>City</strong> resident credit.See Page 30 for Group Swim Lessons Schedulesession dates, and times available.Adult Swim LessonsCo-Ed instruction. Class participation may rangefrom water adjustment (afraid <strong>of</strong> water) to advancedskills for those interested in improving<strong>the</strong>ir swimming skills. Instruction is geared to <strong>the</strong>individual goals <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> participant.Private Swim LessonsIf you would like one on one instruction, privateswim lessons are being <strong>of</strong>fered for both youth andadults.
