Honors <strong>World</strong> <strong>History</strong>Course Description: In this course, students will examine major turning points in the shaping ofthe modern world, from the late eighteenth century to the present. The year will begin with anintroduction to current world issues and then continue with a focus on the expansion of the Westand the growing interdependence of people and cultures throughout the world.Course Goals: The goal of the course is to help you develop an understanding and appreciationfor history while covering the content standards. This will be accomplished by:Providing a positive learning environmentProviding a variety of assessments to measure student learningDeveloping critical thinking skills and writing skillsStudent Expectations: As your teacher, I make a commitment to you to work hard in preparingfor class to get the most benefit out of the time we have together. However, in order to achievethe goals above and those set forth throughout the year; you must also adhere to certainexpectations. These include:Students will come to class on time and be seated when the bell rings.Students will be prepared for class with their class notebook, homework, and supplies.Students will remain on task and follow directions throughout the entire class period.Students will actively participate in all class activities and homework assignments.Students will treat each other and the instructor with respect and courtesy at all times.Students will come to class ready to learn.Classroom Rules: Follow my directions the first time I give them. Raise your hand and wait to be called upon before you speak, during class discussions Respect your fellow classmates. Do not leave class until dismissed.Discipline: The school wide discipline, tardy and truancy rules will be enforced. When a studentbreaks a class or school rule, the following consequences will be applied as appropriate:1. General class warning2. Parent phone call3. Detention4. Referral to officeSupplies:1. Three-Ring Binder2. Spiral Notebook.3. #2 pencils and a blue or black ink pen.4. Colored Ink Pens.
