If you werestudying in the UK in the last 4 monthsbe<strong>for</strong>e applying <strong>for</strong> your student visa, andthe course was 6 months or more, you onlyneed to show your course fees plus £1,200maintenance costs (£600 x 2 months).Can I make a deduction ifI have paid some of my coursefees, or fees <strong>for</strong> Universityaccommodation?Yes, you can deduct the following from thetotal amount of money you need:– The amount you have paid towards coursefeesand– Anything you have paid towards yourfuture <strong>Cardiff</strong> University residences fees.It is not necessary to pay any residencesfees (except <strong>for</strong> the postgraduate deposit)until you arrive in <strong>Cardiff</strong>.You cannot deduct anything <strong>for</strong>accommodation fees if you arrangedthe accommodation yourself (in otherwords, private accommodation).If you pay all or some of your tuition fees to<strong>Cardiff</strong> University Finance Office be<strong>for</strong>e wesend you the CAS email, then the amountyou have paid <strong>for</strong> your tuition fees will benotified directly to the UK Borders Agencyand recorded in this CAS email.We do not recommend that you pay anyfees between receiving your CAS email andapplying <strong>for</strong> your visa.
