I.POWER BOATFigure 21.I.POWER BOAT BOATYARD SERVICES AND YARD LAYOUTThe Power Boat yard is a large facility. Driving it always reminds me of a tollbooth at a highway, but the setup actually makes a great deal of sense.There are four lanes. The two outermost lanes are for those with passessuch as permanent tenants. The innermost lanes are for visitors and youmust stop and speak with the guard. The yard caters to locals as well as transient boats. The local boats arestaged in sheds on trailers and some are also on modern racks. All of thesecustomers are launched and retrieved after each use. The east side of theyard is where the transient boats are put on the hard. The yard is clean,neat, and well organized. A new US 60 ton marine hoist was recentlyinstalled and can pick up most boats.There is a small, inexpensive hotel on the property that has a number ofrooms that are quite serviceable. The only fuel dock in Chaguaramas Bay islocated at Power Boats. There are also slips with pilings. The yard has a veryactive restaurant as well as an internet café. The Boater’s Shop is a smallbut very convenient chandlery and there is even a space provided for “do ityourselfers” to do their work inside, out of the sun and elements.The Power Boat facility has many tradespeople located on the grounds whocan assist you in the maintenance and upgrade of your boat. Check with theyard to determine what restrictions apply regarding the retention ofcontractors from both within and without the yard.Yachtsman’s Guide to Trinidad www.freecruisingguides.com 49
