Snow was falling, the roads were bad anyway, and so it tookthem until 16 and 18 March to reach the Verecke resp. Uzsok passes. There theymet with Polish forces who had (probably with approval) watched the slaughter ofthe Ukrainian opponents.This meeting of the Hungarian and Polish forces at the Carpathian borderpoints wascelebrated in a series of picture postcards, printed in Budapest. (Of course, it wasjust short-lived joy because some six months later Poland was attacked by Germanforces itself and was wiped out.) As far as one can say from empirical evidence,about five different cards were produced – possibly a few more, but certainly lessthan ten. From time to time they appear on the market (e.g. in the Profila picturecardauctions).
