AINSDALE KITE FESTIVALThis event was originally called ‘The Kitebeach Extreme Sports Festival’ and took place on the weekendof 29th/30th of October on the beach at Ainsdale-On-Sea. The NKG had earlier decided not to getinvolved but the organiser John Lewis approached ‘Sky Artists Kite Display Team’ at the ChesterFestival requesting us to put on a display at his event.This turned out tobe the first eventJohn had organisedand we assistedand advised himand Sefton Councilre height- limits,safety etc andensured he provideus with an arenasolely for us. JohnLewis and hiscolleagues workedvery hard toaccommodate usNKG members. AsNKG members’interest grew Johnchanged the nameof the festival to‘The Ainsdale KitePhoto courtesy of DazzzFestival’ and promoted it as a display of all the aspects of kiteflying.Photo courtesy of Ken SavageFriday afternoonmyself,Vanessa,Tom,Keith‘n’ Lorna arrived on thebeach with our caravans.Itwas getting dark and wehad to set up our Arena.Fortunately Selwyn Forster(who was staying at CostaDel Pontins with hisextended family) arrivedshortly after and we allerected the arena. We couldhave had as much room aswe wanted but we ran outof rope and energy.Saturday providedchallenging windconditions so much so thatthe main power kite event3
