STUDENTS LINING UP FORLIMELIGHT IN STATE’SBIGGEST VARIETY SHOWTwenty-nine of the state’s most talentedstudents and Redcliffe’s own ChrislynHamiulton have been selected to star inQueensland’s biggest variety show,Creative Generation - State SchoolsOnstage 2009.They will come together in Brisbane forrehearsals next week ( Monday 11 May– Wednesday 13 May 2009 ).Celebrating the state’s 150th birthday,Creative Generation - State SchoolsOnstage 2009 will take to the stage atthe Brisbane Entertainment Centre,Boondall on Queensland Day, Saturday6 June 2009.Education and Training Minister GeoffWilson said the 29 featured vocalists willwork with vocal coaches and professionalartists throughout the lead up to theshow.“These performers went through alengthy audition process to be selectedto star in this exciting show and haveparticipated in a three-day workshopwhere they shared industry insights withsome of Australia’s leading performersincluding Simon Gallaher and IngridJames,” Mr Wilson said.“These students are the cream of thecrop when it comes to young creativetalent, it will be a real treat for audiencesto experience their vocal abilities in a hostof musical styles including rock, jazz andopera at this jam-packed event.”Mr Wilson said the fifth annual CreativeGeneration - State Schools Onstage 2009would feature leading Queenslandperformers including:• Australian country music legend and2008 Australian of the Year LeeKernaghan,• Queensland pop sensation Ricki-Lee,• Aria award wining band OperatorPlease,• So You Think You Can Dance 2008winner Jack Chambers,• 2008 Australian Idol finalist ChrislynHamilton,• Australia ‘s leading didgeridooperformer William Barton,• Internationally acclaimed tenor DavidKidd,• Leading Queensland jazz singer IngridJames,• Australia’s Got Talent 2009 runner upJal Joshua Lebumfacil,• Performers from Zen Zen Zo, Flip SideCircus and Raw Dance Company,• Queensland’s leading session singerRenae Suttie,• Queensland leading baritone singerSean Brown.More than 2500 performers, includingprofessional artists and state schoolSea BiscuitsA beautiful Mother’s day weekend hadthe shorelines packed with people out forthe day and boat traffic a little slower thannormal for a weekend with good weather.C Team had time to conduct sometraining exercises in the local area.Redcliffe Leagues II skipper and crewalso performed a scattering of ashes fora local family.Unfortunately one of the other jobs wasa call to our own Freight Plus, inshorerescue vessel, to come tow theCoastguard’s Redcliffe Leagues II, stuckin Newport with engine problems whileassisting a vessel. The larger offshoresearch and rescue vessel is expected tobe off the water for a few days for repair.Preparations are underway for a largemulti-flotilla exercise to be based at ourScarborough headquarters. Scheduled forthe Queen’s Birthday weekend, it is sureto be an interesting and challengingevent.Tuesday’s general meeting will be alively one as nominations for Commanderand Deputy Commander will beannounced, with the election to be heldnext month.Malcolm Olding will be stepping down,but not out, as his decades of experiencewill continue to be a benefit to theRedcliffe Flotilla and the entire Squadron.About one-third of the raffle tickets havealready been sold for this year’s prizestudents, will celebrate the Q150 themeof our people, our places and our storiesin spectacular style, with a symphonyorchestra and stage band, massed choir,and dancers.Students across the state have beenrehearsing for several months for theshow and have been working with leadingprofessional artists as well as theirteachers.Tickets to the show are the best valuearound for such big name acts.Tickets are available at all Ticketekoutlets, by phoning 132 849 or atwww.ticketek.com.au. Named the‘Rob Roy” after his famous ancestor, hepaddled his way around Europe in 1865and his daily briefings were sent to LondonNewspapers spurring a huge interest insmall boat building. His next boat, alsothe Rob Roy, was a 21 foot catboat, riggedas a yawl. His books inspired many tofollow in his footsteps and get out there.The story of Macgregor and 69 otheraccounts of big adventures in small boatscan be found in the book: “A Speck inthe Sea” by William H.
