Labyrinth seal SC..LATaconite seal SC..TAFor adverse ambient conditions, all SNC bearinghousings can be fitted with labyrinth seals. Thesealing ring and the sealing groove in the housingform a labyrinth with a narrow sealing gap. Thegreat advantage of these seals is that the bearingarrangement can be operated at the permissiblespeed for the bearings used. The labyrinth ring issynchronised on the shaft by the installed roundcord. The maximum misalignment of the shaft may not begreater than 0.3°.The operating temperature range for this seal isbetween -40°C and +200°C.Optional relubrication of the labyrinth seal is possible. The marking points cast into the housing abovethe sealing groove are used for this purpose.Note that one seal must be ordered for eachside of the housing. The delivery includes alabyrinth ring (material: cast iron or steel) andthe associated round cord. This type of seal is predominantly used whereextreme ambient conditions prevail. Thanks to itsexceptionally robust design, the sealing systemprotects against fine dust and large dirt particlesand is secure against moisture. Overall, threedifferent sealing systems within the component areresponsible for the outstanding sealing effect:• Labyrinth ring that can be relubricated(threaded bore M6) with radial cross pieces;• Shaft sealing;• Cavity completely filled with grease, which actsas a grease lock. The separable Taconite seal is fixed in the sealinggroove between the upper and lower housingsections using an O ring. The labyrinth ring rotateswith the shaft. This is ensured by a round cord thatis inserted between the shaft and the labyrinth ring. The shaft sealing ring is pressed into the stationarypart of the seal. The sealing lip slides on the shaft. The shaft diameter should lie within the tolerancefield h9. We recommend twist free ground shaftswith a roughness of less than R a 3.2 µm.Misalignment of up to 0.5° is technically possible. The permissible temperature range for this seal isbetween -40°C and +100°C. Circumferentialspeeds of up to 10 m/s can be realised. Higher temperaturesare possible using appropriate materials. Our application engineers will be happy to adviseyou on the options we offer.Note that one seal must be ordered for each sideof the housing. The delivery includes a completelyassembled Taconite seal (lubricatingfitting included).15
