ABOUT THE ARCHITECT, LEWIS EDMOND “BUCK” CROOK
Lewis E. Crook graduated from the Georgia Tech Department of Architecture in 1919. In 1922 he accompanied his mentor Neil
Reid, renowned architect, on a European sketching tour. Later he partnered with fellow Georgia Tech Architecture grad Ernest
Daniel Ivey to create the Architectural firm Ivey & Crook. They would go on to practice architecture together for nearly a half
century leaving a lasting legacy and architectural imprint on the city - both in domestic and commercial architecture. Widely
known for his work in Druid Hills and on the Emory Campus, Crook adapted historical styles for his designs and remained
true to the classics emphasizing Jeffersonian or Southern classicism. Ivey & Crook remained traditionalists until the partner’s
deaths in late 1966 and early 1967. Today, 1284 Fairview Road is a lasting testament to the great accomplishments of this gifted
architectural duo and to Crook who was a significant contributor to classicism in the first half of this century.
