The complete kitmust be requisitioned and applied. ‘Items with these codes are not tobe requested/requisitionedindividually. They must be madefrom bulk material which isidentified by the part number inthe DESCRIPTION AND USABLEON CODE (UOC) column andlisted in the Bulk Material groupof the repair parts list in thisRPSTL. If the item is authorizedto you by the 3d position code ofthe SMR code, but the sourcecode indicates it is made at ahigher Ievel, order the item fromthe higher level of maintenance.Items with these codes are not tobe requested/requisitionedindividually. The parts that makeup the assembled item must berequisitioned or fabricated andassembled at the level ofmaintenance indicted by thesource code. If the 3d positioncode of the SMR codeauthorizes you to replace theitem, but the source codeindicates the item is assembledat a higher level, order the itemfrom the higher level ofmaintenance.XC -XD -Installation drawing, diagram, instructionsheet, field service drawing, that is identifiedby the manufacturer’s part number.Item is not stocked. Order an “XD’’-codeditem through normal supply channels usingthe CAGE and part number given, if no NSNis available.NOTE: Cannibalization or controlled exchange, whenauthorized, may be used as a source of supply for itemswith the above source codes, except for those sourcecoded "XA" or those aircraft support items restricted byrequirements of AR 700-42.(2) Maintenance Code. Maintenance codes tellyou the level(s) of maintenance authorized to USE andREPAIR support items. The maintenance codes are enteredin the third and fourth positions of the SMR code asfollows:(a) The maintenance code entered in thethird position tells you the lowest maintenance levelauthorized to remove, replace, and use an item. Themaintenance code entered in the third position will indicateauthorization to one of the following levels ofmaintenance.Code Application/ExplanationC- Crew or operator maintenance done withinunit maintenance or aviation unit maintenance.O- Unit maintenance or aviation unit categorycan remove, replace, and use the item.F- Direct support or aviation intermediate levelcan remove, replace, and use the item.H- General support level can remove, replace,and use the item.L- Specialized repair activity can remove, replace,and use the item.D- Depot level can remove, replace, and usethe item.(b) The maintenance code entered in thefourth position tells whether or not the item is to be repairedand identifies the lowest maintenance level withthe capability to do complete repair (i.e., perform allauthorized repair functions), (NOTE: Some limited repairmay be done on the item at a lower level ofmaintenance, if authorized by the Maintenance AllocationChart (MAC) and SMR codes.) This position willcontain one of the following maintenance codes:XA -XB -Do not requisition an “XA’’-coded item. Orderits next higher assembly. (Also refer tothe NOTE following.)If an “XB” item Is not available from salvage,order it using the CAGE and part numbergiven.Code Application/ExplanationO- Unit maintenance or aviation unit is the lowestlevel that can do complete repair of theitem.F- Direct support or aviation intermediate is thelowest level than can do complete repair ofthe item.2
