Haram is more straightforward anddigestible and lean less towards antagonisticpunk and more towards mid-‘90s indie/alternative-inspired, ear-deafening rock. Onthe other hand, Pygmy Lush is both the mostand least like those past efforts. Breathe in andthey’re a gut-wrenching wall of chaotic noise.Breathe out and they’re a blubbering mess inthe midst of some ghastly, droney, southernballad. Grinding it all together are the localpunk dropouts in Big Baby. They launch thiscelebration of fondness and freakishness ina cloud of mystic smoke and cantankerousprofessionalism, leading us on a vision questfrom a desiccated northeast capitol mecca, its putrefaction flowing through an olde-tymeAmerican countryside-cum-urban sprawl andculminating in a dystopian epicenter of socialapathy and human perseverance. From thewretched avenues of Washington DC to thebowels of the Mason-Dixie country suburbsto the decaying wasteland of New Orleans— it’s hardcore, post-hardcore, punk, grunge, folk, goth music for social deviants of all kinds. This is what it’s like to abandon dancing, moshing, and shoe-gazing to writhe andthrash in a mass of tangled limbs and sweatyflesh, like an animal possessed by equal partstortured depravity and passionate elation.—Bryan FunckRebirth Brass Band, Howlin’ Wolf, 10pmLive New Orleans Presents: Calexico,Republic, 10pm, $20Johnny Sketch & The Dirty Notes, Café BrasilBuddy Guy, Suan Tedeschi, House Of BluesMike Dillon’s GoGo Jungle, Le Bon TempsRoulePapa Grows Funk, Maple LeafTab Benoit, Mid-City LanesNorth Mississippi Allstars, One Eyed JacksParticle, The Iguanas, The Parish @ House OfBluesCowboy Mouth, Soulive, Tipitina’s UptownGal Holiday, Tarantula Arms, 10pmCountry Fried, The Big Top, 10pmThe City Life, Three Fantastic, Hi Ho Lounge,10pmKenny Brown, d.b.a., 8pmLittle Freddie King, d.b.a., 11pm, $5Eric Lindell, d.b.a., 2am, $10Saturday, 4/28Egg Yolk Jubilee, Circle Bar, 10pmEchelon, Swords at Sundown, Horseshoes andHandgrenades, Hippie, Darkroom, 7pm, $10Michael Ray & The Cosmic Krewe, Dragon’sDen, 10pmDas Kapital, The Robinsons, Green Space,7pm, $5Allen Toussant, Marcia Ball, Howlin’ Wolf,9pmVoices Of The Wetlands, Howlin’ Wolf, 11pmEpic, I, Octopus, Metronome TheCity, Tarantula Arms, 9:30pmJohn Butler Trio, Lucinda Williams, The NewMastersounds, House Of BluesAllen Toussaint, Marcia Ball, Howlin’ WolfBonerama, Mid-City LanesNorth Mississippi Allstars, One Eyed JacksGalactic, Tipitina’s UptownEpic, I, Octopus, Metronome The City,Tarantula Arms, 10pmMaelstrom, Go Go Jungle, Chickie Wah Wah,10pmJohn Lisi & Delta Funk, Hi Ho Lounge, 10pmJohn Boutte, d.b.a., 8pm, $5Happy Talk Band, The Morning 40 Federation,d.b.a., Midnight, $10Sunday, 4/29Kitty Lynn, Circle Bar, 10pmSimon Coogan Project, Dragon’s Den, 10pmReal Live Tigers, Green Space, 7pm, $5Bernie Worrell and the N’awlins Funkmasters f/George Porter Jr., Leo Nocentelli, Henry Butler,Russel Batiste, Skerik, Howlin’ Wolf, 10pmStanton Moore, d.b.a.Sound Tribe Sector 9, Tipitina’s UptownSpooky LaStrange and Her Billion-Dollar BabyDolls, Tarantula Arms, 10pmLinnzi Zaorski, d.b.a., 8pm, $5Stanton Moore Trio, d.b.a., Midnight, $20Monday, 4/30Lil’ Freddy King, Circle Bar, 10pmHip Drop, Dragon’s Den, 10pmWill Bernard Band, Stanton Moore, ChickieWah WahPapa Grows Funk, Maple LeafInstruments A Comin’ Benefit Concert w/Donald Harrison, Galactic, Jon Cleary, MarciaBall, New Orleans Social Club, Rebirth BrassBand, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, WalterWolfman Washington, Tipitina’s UptownBlue Grass Pickin’ Party, Hi Ho Lounge, 8pmBob French & Friends, d.b.a., 7pm, $10Illuminasty Trio, d.b.a., 11pm, $10Tuesday, 5/1Simeon, Viva L’american Death RayMusic, Circle Bar, 10pmPinups On Parade Art Show w/ KT, SputnikRanchWednesday, 5/2Alex McMurray, Circle Bar, 10pmThursday, 5/3Dennis Coffey, Circle Bar, 10pmFuck The Facts, In Tomorrow’s Shadow, JudeFawley, Green Space, 7pm, $5Friday, 5/4007, Circle Bar, 10pmThe New Orleans Social Club, The New OrleansAllstars, The Rhythm Council, Papa Grows Funk,Eric McFadden Trio, Howlin’ Wolf, 9pmDirty Coast Presents: Ozomatli, Republic,10pm, $22Saturday, 5/5The Ploy Boys, Circle Bar, 10pmCowboy Mouth, Howlin’ Wolf, 9pmGeorge Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic,Republic, 10pm, $34Mono, Grails, World’s End Girlfriend, SpanishMoon, 10pm30_antigravity: your new orleans music and culture alternative
