The same elements rearranged in a different way. This isexactly what the choreographers Koen Augustijnen and Rosalba TorresGuerrero (Les ballets C de la B) and the dramaturge Hildegard De Vuyst(KVS) have in mind with this traditional line dance. With an ensemble often Palestinian dancers from different movement backgrounds — moderndance, artistry, hip hop — they deconstruct and reassemble it in new,at times chaotic ways. Globalized forms of popular dances, such asshown in Walt Disney’s film «Jungle Book», contrast this investigationinto the possibilities and the limitations of tradition. (esc)In the third part of his trilogy, «Influx Controls», the South African performerand dancer Boyzie Cekwana addresses another highly topicalissue: food. To have enough food and enjoy it is far too often dependenton power and privilege — not only in Africa. Cekwana’s latest work isagain characterized by his unsuspected ingenuity and an esthetic radicalismwith which he translates his ideas into images and movement. He ironically announces his performance as a «a tawdry essay on thedisquiet of an angry stomach grumbling at the deafening din on culinarycorrectness».
