Department ofPARKS & RECREATIONMISSION STATEMENTThe <strong>Lower</strong> <strong>Providence</strong> <strong>Township</strong> Parks and Recreation Department is aprofessionally operated, multi-faceted leisure services organization. Our missionis based on a passion for enriching the lives of our residents through recreation,creating natural beauty and maintaining a safe, clean environment. We fosterthe responsibility for developing, supporting and administering recreationalactivities and facilities that enhance the quality of life for our citizens whocomprise the township, which is named <strong>Lower</strong> <strong>Providence</strong>.Parks and Recreation Department staff members:from left, seated: Program CoordinatorAngela Johnson and Director Kelly Donohue;standing, Michael Nester, Chuck Mason,John Gracie, and Bob Foose.HELPING HANDSCamp Perkiomy was forced to temporarilyclose some sites because of power outagesfollowing the July storm.Counselors not needed for their regular dutiesoffered to help the <strong>Township</strong> in whateverway they could. They handed out flyers,served as runners for the EmergencyOperations Center, and helped to distributedry ice. These exceptional teens were presentedwith Outstanding Youth Awards bythe Board of Supervisors.Outstanding Youth Award recipients and theBoard of SupervisorsIn 2006, the Department of Parks and Recreation offered excellentservices for the public, providing programs, trips, activities, and events forparticipants of all ages. Once again, the Department’s Kid Culture andthe Children’s Showcase Series educated and entertained the youngsters.Residents enjoyed an expanded selection of programs including holidaycrafts, scrap booking, and guitar lessons. During the summer months, theDepartment offered camps for a wide variety of interests, including sports,nature, and horseback riding. Camp Perkiomy, the Department’s summerday camp, provided fun for its young campers.TRADITIONS & SPECIAL EVENTSThe Parks and Recreation Department was pleased to again be part of anumber of popular <strong>Lower</strong> <strong>Providence</strong> <strong>Township</strong> traditions: Easter EggHunt, Independence Day Celebration, Family Fun Day, Haunted House,Turkey Foul Shooting Contest and Holiday Celebrations. These eventswere well attended and the Department looks forward to continuedparticipation from the <strong>Township</strong> residents in the coming year.During the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, the Departmentcoordinated its annual Caring and Sharing Campaign. Food items andmonetary donations were collected to ensure that deserving <strong>Township</strong>families were able to enjoy delicious holiday meals. In addition, theDepartment sponsored the collection of winter clothing and an Angel Treegift-giving program.8L O W E R P R O V I D E N C E T O W N S H I P
