ALL <strong>WFTDA</strong> OFFICIALS, WHETHER AFFILIATED WITH A <strong>WFTDA</strong> LEAGUE OR NOT, SHALL: Hold and maintain the basic tenets <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficiating, which include an understanding <strong>of</strong> the history <strong>of</strong> the sport andthe <strong>WFTDA</strong>, integrity, neutrality, respect, sensitivity, pr<strong>of</strong>essionalism, discretion, and tactfulness. Master the rules <strong>of</strong> the game and procedures necessary to enforce the rules, and exercise authority in animpartial, firm, and controlled manner. Uphold the dignity <strong>of</strong> the sport in all interactions with skaters, coaches, volunteers, and the public. Display and execute superior communication skills, both verbal and non‐verbal. Recognize that any action which may lead to a conflict <strong>of</strong> interest shall be avoided. Special treatment or privileges for any skater in the league, which can compromise the perceived impartiality <strong>of</strong><strong>of</strong>ficiating, shall be avoided. Officials shall disclose to persons in authority (i.e., to Crew and/or Tournament Head Referees/Head NSOs) anyconflict <strong>of</strong> interest which may result in accusations <strong>of</strong> bias. Disclosure alone shall not result in sanctions fromeither <strong>WFTDA</strong> Grievances or Referee / NSO Certification. If an <strong>of</strong>ficial receives compensation in excess <strong>of</strong> the cost <strong>of</strong> travel and lodging from or on behalf <strong>of</strong> a teamparticipating in a bout, that compensation shall be disclosed to the participating team captains prior to thebout. Compensation from the <strong>WFTDA</strong> or the tournament host league for <strong>WFTDA</strong> Play<strong>of</strong>f or ChampionshipTournaments that is provided to all <strong>of</strong>ficials who work a given tournament need not be disclosed. Thiscompensation shall be construed as payment for services rendered and shall not be conflated withremuneration for acts <strong>of</strong> favoritism. Work with one another and their governing bodies in a constructive and cooperative manner. Shall not use one’s position as an <strong>of</strong>ficial to benefit oneself. Be cautious during rules discussions, especially in public forums. As a <strong>WFTDA</strong>‐affiliated <strong>of</strong>ficial, the opinion <strong>of</strong>this <strong>of</strong>ficial is likely to be considered <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>WFTDA</strong> policy. The expression <strong>of</strong> personal opinions regarding teams, players, and bouts shall be avoided in public forums toprevent conflicts <strong>of</strong> interest. <strong>WFTDA</strong>‐affiliated <strong>of</strong>ficials shall never publicly express predictions or judgmentsregarding bouts they are scheduled to <strong>of</strong>ficiate. Never engage in any sort <strong>of</strong> gambling acts related to any <strong>WFTDA</strong> sanctioned bouts.
