These hourlong,interactive concerts introduce children toclassical music in a concert hall setting in a moreinformal way than the evening concerts.Participating teachers receive a concertcurriculum guide to effectively prepare studentsfor the concert experience. This experience offers anup-close listen to the different sounds comingfrom each instrument.FREE DOUBLE BASS CLASSIn 2010, PYP identified a shortage of youngmusicians choosing to play double bass. Inresponse, PYP began offering free double bassclasses for students interested in receiving qualityinstruction on the instrument. During the2012-2013 season, the program expanded tooffer three bass classes in order to supportdistinct levels of instruction. Instructors aremembers of the Oregon Symphony.PEER MENTOR PROGRAMThe Peer Mentor Program pairs middle schoolmusic students with PYP musicians for half-hour,low-cost private music lessons on theirinstruments. The PYP musician/mentors are highschool or college students who are eager to sharetheir experience and knowledge with young,enthusiastic musicians.“The Peer Mentor Progam is fantastic.
