PRESS RELEASEWEMPE CHRONOMETERWERKE Glashütte i/SAMaximum Precision, Minimum SizeGlashütte, 18 September 2006 - This series involves a special fine-mechanical challengeand is the result of an exchange of ideas and expertise in the spirit of partnership. TheWEMPE Chronometerwerke models have been developed, engineered and built exclusivelyby the Nomos Glashütte manufactory on the basis of a cooperation agreement. The casesand sapphire crystals feature toric curvature and fit perfectly around the calibres insidethem. The case’s radius of curvature measures 55.00 millimetres in the longitudinaldirection and 123.00 millimetres from the “9” to the “3.” The tonneau shape gives thiswatch its characteristic appearance. A peek through the pane of sapphire crystal in theback reveals the Saxon provenance of the movement, which is equipped with a stopsecondsfunction, hand-engraved balance-cock, swan neck fine adjustment mechanism, screw balance, three-quarter plate, screwed gold settings, blued screws, and barrels withruby bearings. In addition to this wristwatch chronometer, which is tested according toGermany's DIN industrial standards, a chronometer tourbillon is also available in a limitededition of 25 watches. This model too encases a newly engineered tourbillon movement. For additional Information, please contact:Mr. Rüdiger AlbersMs. Nadja WeisweilerWempe Jewelersc/o Gerhard D. WEMPE CHRONOMETERWERKE Manual Winding TourbillonThe Watchmaker’s Triumph over GravityGlashütte, 18 September 2006 - With the tourbillon mechanism, the oscillating andescapement system is set inside a lightweight cage made of meticulously pierced andpolished steel. The cage completes one full rotation around its own axis during eachpredetermined interval. These rotations compensate for gravitationally induced errors in amechanical watch’s oscillating system: gravity influences the oscillation of the balanceand balance-spring from every direction during each rotation. The tourbillon mechanism, which improves the accuracy of a watch’s rate, was invented by the legendarywatchmaker Abraham Louis-Breguet, who was granted a patent for it in 1802.Approximately 200 years later, this complicated mechanism numbers among the supremeachievements of fine watchmaking. The WEMPE CHRONOMETERWERKE wristwatchchronometer series includes a limited edition of 25 tourbillon chronometers. This newtourbillon has been engineered and built by Thierry Albert of the Nomos watchmanufactory. The calibre (including the components of the movement, the screws, thetourbillon cage and the axis of the tourbillon cage) is crafted at the manufactory fromsolid materials. Any non-milled parts are lathe-turned by the watchmakers. This watchmarks the first implementation of a German chronometer-certified tourbillon. The dial ispierced to allow the wristwatch’s owner to view the movement at work within the 950platinum case. For additional Information, please contact:Mr. Rüdiger AlbersMs. Nadja WeisweilerWempe Jewelersc/o Gerhard D. WEMPE CHRONOMETERWERKE Seconds Precision Pendulum ClockA 1.47-Metre Tall and 34-Centimetre Wide Period Piece Crafted withTo-The-Millimetre PrecisionGlashütte, 18 September 2006 - No fewer than thirteen coats of lacquer are applied tothis pendulum clock’s wooden case, which is embellished with metal intarsia. Inside, connoisseurs will find a timekeeping construction that maximises accuracy bycompensating for variations in atmospheric pressure. Two aneroid-capsule instrumentsare affixed to the Superinvar pendulum, which is more than a meter in length. Whenatmospheric pressure is high, the aneroid capsules are compressed, thus correcting theweight downward; when atmospheric pressure is low, the capsules expand away fromeach other, thus pulling the weight upward. The clockwork is manufactured in cooperationwith the Sattler clock manufactory in Gräfelfing (near Munich). It subsequently undergoesfurther refinement at Glashütte Observatory. The dial, which was designed by Wempe, iscrafted at the observatory, where it receives its striped decorative pattern and silky mattesilver plating. Lothar Beuke, one of the last chronometer-makers in Germany to havepassed a master’s examination, is responsible for the final assembly. For additional Information, please contact:Mr. Rüdiger AlbersMs. Nadja WeisweilerWempe Jewelersc/o Gerhard D.
