Facingby Johannes MaierFilm dataYear:2004The projectThe focus of the work Facing is a documentary by the BBCcameraman Darren Conway, who accompanied Britishsoldiers in the most recent Iraq War as an “embedded”journalist. In it Conway reports on the situation in whichhis unit found itself and on his personal perceptions ofthe theater of war. In Facing Johannes Maier confrontsthe journalist with his documentary. In the glow of thelow-contrast images on the monitor Conway commentson his own work, which was several months old at thetime he was viewing it. The result is a constellation, asdense as it is complex, between author and film, betweencurrent events and memory, between authenticity anddramatization in the media.(Ralf Christofori)Original Format:DV Video, colour, soundDuration:6:50 minutesLanguage:English (available with German Subtitles)CreditsEditor and Camera Johannes Maier2www.fineartsunternehmen.com
