Family lore has it that hewas left-handed and had left-handed scissors at thestore. At last account, a family member owns thosescissors today. In 1910, sons Charles, Homer andDewey are still living at home. George II donated theland for the Ava Methodist Church nearby, and he andhis wife Jimmie are buried in the cemetery there.In 1888, he was a Justice of the Peace for RandolphCounty, and served as a County Commissioner from1892 to 1896. A history of Randolph County, written byEditor J. M. K. Guinn, appeared in the Wedowee"Randolph Toiler" from 1894-1896. In it, Mr. Guinn givesthumbnail sketches of County Officials from 1833 to1892. His comments about George W. French, Jr. areinteresting, particularly in light of the fact that Georgewas still in office when the story was written. The sketchfollows in full."George W.
