<strong>Armenian</strong> Martyrs' Congregational Church<strong>of</strong> Havertown, PA Marks CentenaryMINISTRYSPOTLIGHTFour hundred congregants,dignitaries, friends, andguests helped <strong>the</strong> <strong>Armenian</strong>Martyrs' CongregationalChurch (AMCC) mark its centenary,with a luncheon banquet on SundayDecember 2, 2007. The Master <strong>of</strong>Ceremonies was Albert Momjian, Esq.,and <strong>the</strong> keynote speakers were formerpastor Rev. Dr. Peter Doghramji andguest speaker Dr. Tony Campolo.A major portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> celebratoryluncheon was devoted to remembering<strong>the</strong> past and honoring those whoestablished and served <strong>the</strong> church.The history <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AMCC goesback to <strong>the</strong> latter years <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 19thCentury and <strong>the</strong> early years <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>20th, when <strong>the</strong> small community <strong>of</strong>Protestant and Apostolic <strong>Armenian</strong>sliving in Philadelphia organizedoccasional worship services led byguest preachers and priests.Following <strong>the</strong> 1915 massacres<strong>of</strong> <strong>Armenian</strong>s in Turkey, when a newwave <strong>of</strong> immigrants increased <strong>the</strong>Evangelical community, a secondEvangelical church was organized in1920. Within a few short years thosetwo churches were merged to form<strong>the</strong> AMCC. The AMCC established it'shome in West Philadelphia in 1924 andin 1964 it moved to its present home inHavertown.The AMCC congregation is a vitalpresence in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Armenian</strong> community<strong>of</strong> Greater Philadelphia providingleadership and impetus to communalharmony and cooperation.The AMCC congregation has astrong sense <strong>of</strong> stewardship bothlocally and worldwide. Besidessupporting many <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> AMAA'soutreach programs, <strong>the</strong> church recentlyestablished a sister church relationshipwith <strong>the</strong> <strong>Armenian</strong> Evangelical Church<strong>of</strong> Plovdiv, Bulgaria, supporting <strong>the</strong>church both spiritually and financially.As <strong>of</strong> September 2007, Rev.
