<strong>2012</strong> <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Homecoming</strong> <strong>Steering</strong> <strong>Committee</strong><strong>Application</strong> PacketABOUT OUHSCThe <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Homecoming</strong> <strong>Steering</strong> <strong>Committee</strong> (OUHSC) is charged with the planning and coordination ofall <strong>Homecoming</strong> activities including Kick-Off, the Yell Like Hell pep rally, the Bobcat Court, and the Parade.The following goals have been set for this year’s OUHSC:1. There will be even more dynamic and diverse <strong>Homecoming</strong> programs – particularly events andopportunities specifically designed for students2. Campus units will develop and execute new <strong>Homecoming</strong> events that are, through the coordination of theOUHSC, well integrated with <strong>University</strong>-wide <strong>Homecoming</strong> activities3. There will be an increase in the number of students participating in <strong>Homecoming</strong> events4. There will be stronger coordination of events including more effective advertisingThe following positions are available on the <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Homecoming</strong> <strong>Steering</strong> <strong>Committee</strong>:• Director• Assistant Director• Communication Chair• Parade Chair/Co-Chair• Bobcat Court Chair/Co-Chair• Yell Like Hell Chair/Co-Chair• Kick-Off Chair/Co-Chair• Service CoordinatorEstimated weekly time commitment for all positions will range between 10-15 hours during winter and springQuarters, 5-10 hours during summer session, and 15-30 hours prior to <strong>Homecoming</strong> during fall semester.The DIRECTOR will:• Be the “face” of the <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Homecoming</strong> <strong>Steering</strong> <strong>Committee</strong> (OUHSC)• Represent the OUHSC at various campus events, conferences, and meetings• Develop meeting agendas and lead all regular and ad-hoc OUHSC meetings• Maintain communication and serve as liaison to <strong>Homecoming</strong> constituents including ad-hoc members ofthe OUHSC (Facilities, <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>University</strong> Police Department, Event Services, Intercollegiate Athletics, the <strong>Ohio</strong><strong>University</strong> Alumni Association, <strong>University</strong> Communication and Marketing, Transportation Services, and theCampus Involvement Center) as well as Greek Life, the Student Activities Commission, BSCPB, UPC,Student Senate, etc.• Prepare the OUHSC funding presentation for the General Fee Advisory <strong>Committee</strong>• Work with the Assistant Director to pursue sponsorship and fundraising opportunities on behalf of theOUHSC• Meet weekly with the <strong>Homecoming</strong> advisor(s)• Include and keep <strong>Homecoming</strong> advisor(s) updated on upcoming projects, questions, concerns, andcommunications• Maintain timely, consistent and clear communication with all members of the OUHSC


<strong>2012</strong> <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Homecoming</strong> <strong>Steering</strong> <strong>Committee</strong><strong>Application</strong> PacketThe ASSISTANT DIRECTOR will:• Act as a delegate on behalf of the Director when needed and assist with <strong>Homecoming</strong> related projects• Will be responsible for all decorations related to <strong>Homecoming</strong> and will work with each chair/co-chair todetermine any event-specific needs that they may require• Work with each chair/co-chair on their respective budget• Conduct the financial transactions related to <strong>Homecoming</strong>• Coordinate the recruitment, retention, and recognition of OUHSC members• Assist Graduate Practicum Students with quarterly OUHSC projects including benchmarking andassessment• Meet weekly with the Director• Include and keep <strong>Homecoming</strong> advisor(s) updated on projects, questions, concerns, and communications• Maintain timely, consistent and clear communication with all members of the OUHSCThe COMMUNICATION CHAIR will:• Record and archive minutes of each meeting of the OUHSC• Archive pictures, articles, flyers, advertisements, and other miscellaneous information• Maintain a list of active members• Send out weekly emails (as needed) to members with updates and upcoming events• Create and maintain <strong>Homecoming</strong> Facebook page and <strong>Homecoming</strong> webpage• Coordinate all marketing and advertising initiatives for the OUHSC including print, broadcast, and socialmedia• Work closely with the advisor(s), other committee members, and key constituents to determine<strong>Homecoming</strong> theme and logo• Develop creative and innovative strategies to promote <strong>Homecoming</strong> events within the <strong>University</strong> postingguidelines• Work with Director/Assistant Director to determine communication budget needs and expenditures• Include and keep <strong>Homecoming</strong> advisor(s) updated on upcoming projects, questions, concerns, andcommunications• Maintain timely, consistent and clear communication with all members of the OUHSCThe PARADE CHAIR/CO-CHAIR will:• Work with members of the <strong>University</strong> community to coordinate all aspects of the parade• Pursue opportunities to promote parade participation to student organizations, residence halls,departments, and community members and organizations• Coordinate judging and evaluation of parade entries• Coordinate all aspects of parade entry registration and participation• Work with Director to determine parade budget needs and expenditures• Coordinate volunteers, route, participants, parade permit, etc. beginning in spring <strong>2012</strong>• Select and coordinate Parade Emcee(s)• Act as liaison between OUHSC and parade VIPs (Marching 110, Alumni Band, Alumni Award recipients,platform party members, etc.)• Manage any crisis or conflict related to the parade either in the planning process or on the day of—flexibility and creative thinking is a must• Work closely with <strong>Homecoming</strong> advisor(s) to determine parade logistics• Include and keep <strong>Homecoming</strong> advisor(s) updated on upcoming projects, questions, concerns, andcommunications• Maintain timely, consistent and clear communication with all members of the OUHSC


<strong>2012</strong> <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Homecoming</strong> <strong>Steering</strong> <strong>Committee</strong><strong>Application</strong> PacketThe BOBCAT COURT CHAIR/CO-CHAIR will:• Direct the interviews, voting, and service projects for the Bobcat Court• Organize Bobcat Court appearances and events including Yell Like Hell and football game• Coordinate judging and evaluation of Bobcat Court candidates• Work with Director/Assistant Director to determine Court budget needs and expenditures• Include and keep <strong>Homecoming</strong> advisor(s) updated on upcoming projects, questions, concerns, andcommunications• Maintain timely, consistent and clear communication with all members of the OUHSCThe YELL LIKE HELL (YLH) CHAIR/CO-CHAIR will:• Work with members of the <strong>University</strong> community to coordinate all aspects of YLH• Pursue opportunities to promote YLH participation to student organizations, residence halls, departments,and community members and organizations• Coordinate participation of cheerleaders, Marching 110, dance team, Bobcat Court, and others in YLH• Work with Director/Assistant Director to determine budget needs and expenditures• Include and keep <strong>Homecoming</strong> advisor(s) updated on upcoming projects, questions, concerns, andcommunications• Maintain timely, consistent and clear communication with all members of the OUHSCThe KICK-OFF CHAIR/CO-CHAIR will:• Work with members of the <strong>University</strong> community to coordinate all aspects of Kick-Off• Pursue opportunities to promote Kick-Off participation to student organizations, residence halls,departments, and community members and organizations• Coordinate participation of cheerleaders, Marching 110, dance team, Bobcat Court, and others in Kick-Off• Work with Director/Assistant Director to determine budget needs and expenditures• Include and keep <strong>Homecoming</strong> advisor(s) updated on upcoming projects, questions, concerns, andcommunications• Maintain timely, consistent and clear communication with all members of the OUHSCThe SERVICE COORDINATOR will:• Be creative--there is no mold for <strong>Homecoming</strong> service events• Preside over any and all service initiatives or events• Communicate with members of the <strong>University</strong> and Athens communities to arrange service opportunities forOUHSC members and all OHIO community members• Work with the American Red Cross to coordinate a <strong>Homecoming</strong> Blood Drive• Work with Greek organizations to support Greek <strong>Homecoming</strong> service events• Coordinate volunteers, location, activities, participants, and transportation (if necessary) for service events• Collaborate with other OUHSC leaders to identify any volunteer needs for <strong>Homecoming</strong>• Include and keep <strong>Homecoming</strong> advisor(s) updated on upcoming projects, questions, concerns, andcommunications• Maintain consistent and clear communication with all members of the OUHSC


<strong>2012</strong> <strong>Ohio</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Homecoming</strong> <strong>Steering</strong> <strong>Committee</strong><strong>Application</strong> Packet<strong>Application</strong>A position on the OUHSC is a one-year commitment. The position will begin in Winter Quarter <strong>2012</strong> and concludein December <strong>2012</strong>. Some summer commitments will be required including work on specific projects and meetingswith OUHSC members and stakeholders. Members of the OUHSC will be expected to maintain consistentcommunication throughout the OUHSC planning process via phone and email.For priority consideration, please submit your application by December 12, 2011. <strong>Application</strong>s will continue to beaccepted and reviewed through Monday, January 16 at 5:00 PM.
