The17.7-hectare scheme to transform <strong>the</strong>city’s historic Chapel Street area witha mixed-use development creatingnew homes and commercial spacewill reinstate Chapel Street as a busygateway to <strong>the</strong> city centre.Green and walkable streetsCentral Salford is rolling out its visionto re-connect communities throughits ‘green and walkable streets’programme. Ensuring high qualitypublic realm in local areas to supportsustainable regeneration and link majorboulevarding and public realm projectsinto adjacent neighbourhoods. Central Salford issue#03 2009St Philip’s Church(left) has beenlisted as one of <strong>the</strong>most beautiful in<strong>the</strong> North West.Local beautySt Philip’s church, just off Chapel Street,has been listed as one of <strong>the</strong> mostbeautiful churches in <strong>the</strong> north west byMat<strong>the</strong>w Byrne who toured <strong>the</strong> regionfor his book Great Churches of <strong>the</strong> NorthWest.The church, built in 1825, is describedas one of <strong>the</strong> city’s most iconicbuildings by Reverend Andy Salmon.It is among just 26 o<strong>the</strong>rs chosen byauthor Byrne who pinpointed it asone of <strong>the</strong> most beautiful due to itsarchitectural distinction, beauty, qualityof sculpture, carving and stained glassplus historic interest.
