Our Key Priorities for Government:
1. We’ll immediately legislate <strong>to</strong> scrap
the world’s biggest Carbon Tax
and start reducing cost of living
pressures on all <strong>Australia</strong>ns –
especially by taking pressure off
electricity, gas and fuel prices.
2. Within 30 days we’ll take real
action <strong>to</strong> s<strong>to</strong>p the boats with
proven policies that work.
3. Within 12 months we’ll <strong>get</strong>
the Bud<strong>get</strong> <strong>back</strong> under control,
cut government waste, and start
delivering real and sustainable
surpluses – paying <strong>back</strong> debt – and
taking pressure off interest rates.
4. In our first term we’ll start building
a bigger and stronger Five-Pillar
Economy – creating stronger jobs
growth right across <strong>Australia</strong>.
5. We’ll <strong>get</strong> small businesses growing
and creating more jobs – by cutting
company tax, cutting government
red tape by over $1 billion a year –
and boosting productivity.
6. In our first term, we’ll start
delivering better health and
education outcomes – by
putting local people from local
communities, not bureaucrats,
in charge of schools and hospitals.
7. Within the first year we’ll take real

in local communities across

Tony Abbott was a senior, experienced Cabinet Minister in the
Howard Government.
• He has a law degree and a degree in economics from the University of Sydney.

within 12 months we’ll <strong>get</strong> the bud<strong>get</strong>
<strong>back</strong> under control, cut government waste,
and start delivering real and sustainable
bud<strong>get</strong> surpluses – paying <strong>back</strong> debt – and
taking pressure off interest rates and the
<strong>Australia</strong>n dollar.
Commission of Audit
for the 1st time in 16 years, we’ll
immediately establish a commission of
Audit – <strong>to</strong> identify savings and efficiencies
in all areas of government so we can start
delivering real and sustainable bud<strong>get</strong>
surpluses in<strong>to</strong> the future.
End wasteful spending
and borrowing
we’ll immediately crack down on waste and
end reckless spending and borrowing –
so the government no longer needs <strong>to</strong> keep
borrowing money <strong>to</strong> prop up its bud<strong>get</strong>.
Reducing government debt
we’ll start reducing government debt
– so that the government won’t need <strong>to</strong>
spend around $8 billion a year on interest
payments alone. This will then free up
money <strong>to</strong> spend on families – through lower
taxes and better health and education.

and businesses caused by rapidly rising
electricity, gas and fuel prices.
Encouraging stronger
economic growth
by repealing the world’s biggest carbon Tax
– we’ll immediately secure <strong>Australia</strong>n jobs
and businesses, put downward pressure on
prices, res<strong>to</strong>re confidence in the economy,
encourage stronger economic growth, boost
<strong>Australia</strong>’s exports and make <strong>Australia</strong>’s
businesses more competitive in the world.
Reducing carbon emissions
starting in our first term we’ll take
real action <strong>to</strong> reduce carbon emissions in
a practical, affordable way – by planting
millions of trees, <strong>get</strong>ting more carbon
in<strong>to</strong> soils, and using smarter innovative
<strong>Australia</strong>n technology.
15,000 strong Green Army
within the first year, we’ll begin <strong>to</strong>
establish a 15,000 strong green army – <strong>to</strong> start
cleaning up and protecting the environment in
local communities throughout <strong>Australia</strong>.

– protecting jobs, growing a bigger economy,
increasing <strong>Australia</strong>’s exports, res<strong>to</strong>ring

Building a Five-Pillar
Pro-Growth Economy
in our first term, we’ll start building a
bigger and stronger five-Pillar economy:
1) a stronger service economy,
2)a stronger education and information
economy,

manufacturing businesses
we’ll also act immediately <strong>to</strong> provide a level
playing field for manufacturing businesses
with more effective anti-dumping measures.
Growing small businesses
we’ll take action <strong>to</strong> cut company tax
and start cutting government red tape costs
by over $1 billion a year <strong>to</strong> help businesses
grow and create more <strong>Australia</strong>n jobs.

pressure on your family’s interest rates by

Protecting private health rebate
we’ll protect and strengthen
Medicare by res<strong>to</strong>ring the private health
insurance rebate.
Affordable, flexible childcare
we’ll deliver a system that provides
more affordable and flexible childcare <strong>to</strong> help
families juggle work and family commitments
by asking the Productivity commission <strong>to</strong>
urgently undertake an inquiry in<strong>to</strong> childcare.
Better paid parental leave
in our first term we’ll introduce a
Paid Parental Leave scheme <strong>to</strong> give most
mothers six months off at full pay. This helps
families; and gives women the choice if they
want <strong>to</strong> continue their careers.

businesses <strong>get</strong> ahead.
Cutting taxes and costs
we’ll take action <strong>to</strong> encourage small
businesses <strong>to</strong> grow by cutting company tax
and by abolishing the carbon Tax which will
reduce the costs of every business.
Cutting red tape by $1 billion a year
within 12 months we’ll help businesses
grow by cutting government red tape costs <strong>to</strong>
business by at least $1 billion p.a.
Easing pressure on interest rates
we’ll ease the pressure on interest
rates and the <strong>Australia</strong>n dollar through
lower government spending and borrowing.
Boosting productivity
we’ll take a series of measures <strong>to</strong> boost
productivity – including carefully considering
the practical problems that the community has
identified in the fair work Act so that small
businesses and their staff can <strong>get</strong> a fair go and
productivity can increase.
Paying bills on time
within 100 days we’ll ensure
government departments and agencies pay
their small business bills on time by adopting a
‘pay on time or pay interest penalty’ at the
same rate as applied by the ATo.

Stronger jobs growth
starting in our first term we’ll
create more jobs right across <strong>Australia</strong> by

Growing more small business jobs
we’ll start creating more new jobs in
the small business sec<strong>to</strong>r by taking pressure
off rising business costs, cutting company
tax, cutting government red tape, and
creating more productive workplaces.
Encouraging real wages growth
we’ll encourage real wages growth for
workers by growing the economy and providing
real opportunities for productivity growth.
Getting young people in<strong>to</strong> work
within 4 months we’ll start
encouraging unemployed young people <strong>to</strong> <strong>get</strong>
<strong>back</strong> in<strong>to</strong> the workforce particularly in those
areas where unskilled jobs are readily available.
<strong>Australia</strong>n Technical Colleges
within our first term we’ll start
establishing <strong>Australia</strong>n Technical colleges
across <strong>Australia</strong> <strong>to</strong> boost job skills training.

<strong>Real</strong> plans <strong>to</strong> deliver better
health and education.
Cooperating with the States
we’ll immediately work with the
state governments <strong>to</strong> start delivering better
health and education outcomes.
Putting mental health first
within 18 months we’ll start
delivering better accommodation, treatment
and employment services for people with
mental health problems.
Helping seniors and the aged
we’ll ensure seniors enjoy the safe
and secure retirement they deserve; and
improve aged care services.
Fixing our public hospitals
starting in our first term we’ll put
local people from local communities, not
bureaucrats, in charge of public hospitals by
creating independent community boards <strong>to</strong>
appoint the ceo, put patient-care first, and
manage hospital bud<strong>get</strong>s.
Creating better public schools
starting in our first term we’ll also put
parents from local communities in charge of
public schools, by creating school councils <strong>to</strong>
appoint and then empower principals <strong>to</strong> run
schools, and manage school bud<strong>get</strong>s.
Our plan <strong>to</strong>
build a stronger
<strong>Australia</strong>.
<strong>Real</strong> plans <strong>to</strong> strengthen
our nation.
Defending our nation
we’ll s<strong>to</strong>p Labor’s defence run-down
and give our defence forces the resources
and equipment they need.
Securing our borders
within 30 days we’ll take real action
<strong>to</strong> s<strong>to</strong>p the boats with policies that work
– through offshore processing in nauru, by
re-introducing temporary protection visas,
and by turning the boats around when safe
<strong>to</strong> do so.
Better value infrastructure
we’ll immediately <strong>get</strong> on with the
job of building infrastructure – including
roads, railways, and ports – based on proper
cost-benefit analyses that delivers better
value <strong>to</strong> taxpayers.
Building new dams
we’ll kick start the detailed planning
necessary for building new dams – so we can
secure the nation’s water supplies and deliver
strong economic benefits for <strong>Australia</strong>, while
also protecting our environment.
Stable/accountable government
we’ll immediately deliver strong,
stable and accountable government.
