CLASSIC<strong>JANVIER</strong>E q u at i on Of T i m e - L u n a r C y c l eWhen he founded his manufacture inSainte-Croix in 1994, Vianney Halterbaptized it La Manufacture Janvier to paytribute to one of the most extraordinarywatchmakers of all times : Antide Janvier(1751-1835).Antide Janvier was known as the “celestialclockmaker” because he excelled in creatingtimepieces representing the movements ofthe celestial bodies.Vianney Halter therefore presents theClassic Lune et Soleil (moon and sun),displaying in addition to the official time, theEquation of Time and the Lunar Cycle.A strictly limited series of 12 pieces will becrafted in platinum and numbered 01 P 401to 12 P 412.This model will mark the end of the originalClassic collection which has ceased after atotal production of 250 pieces.Equation Of TimeDuring a year, the real solar time is eitherbehind or ahead the mean solar time due tothe earth's axis being tilted at 23°27’relative to its orbital plane around the sunand the elliptical rather than circular shapeof its orbit.The sun can be up to 16 minutes 21seconds behind and 14 minutes 24 secondsahead.In the round case of the Classic, enlarged to40 mm, Vianney Halter adds a yellow goldhand bearing the sun. Provided the bluedsteel hands of the watch are set on thelocal solar mean time i.e. the official timecorrected according to the longitudedeviation, one can intuitively read at aglance the real solar time by means of thehour blued steel hand and the gold sunhand.Real solar time and mean solar timecoincide only four times per year, atapproximately the 16th April, 14th June, 1stSeptember and 25th December.On these days the blued steel minute handand the yellow gold hand will converge.Lunar C ycleThe moon waxesand wanes withina cycle that lastsapprox. 29 daysand 12 hours.To display day afterday the exactsituation of theMoon, Halterimplements a veryspecial doublehand set.One hand showsthe current day ofthe cycle whilebearing a whitegold disk whichrepresents themoon .On a separate hand is a black disk whichgradually covers and uncovers the whitegold disk, thus displaying the evolution ofthe phases of the moon in the sky.
