is estimated that there is only a tiny<br />

population confined to a very small breeding<br />

UNTIL 1984, ThE SPECIES WAS kNOWN FROM ONLy A<br />

SINGLE MUSEUM SPECIMEN COLLECTED IN 1855. DATA<br />

FROM LANDED PETRELS hAVE SINCE BEEN GAThERED IN<br />

2005, 2007 AND 2009. IN 2009 FIVE OR SIx INDIVIDUALS<br />

WERE RECORDED AT SEA DURING A MISSION TO LOCATE<br />

ThE SPECIES. SIGNIFICANT EFFORTS ARE UNDERWAy TO<br />

LOCATE ThEIR BREEDING GROUND AND NESTING BURROWS<br />

USING VARIOUS METhODS INCLUDING ThE EMPLOyMENT OF<br />

SPECIALLy TRAINED WILDLIFE SEARCh DOGS.<br />
