honorary degree recipientCecil RorabeckDr. Rorabeck is one <strong>of</strong> the world’s leading experts on hip and knee replacement surgery. He is a Pr<strong>of</strong>essorEmeritus and former Chair <strong>of</strong> Orthopaedic Surgery at Western and London Health Sciences Centre. Hecurrently serves as Council Chair for the Robarts Research Institute.A native <strong>of</strong> North Bay, Ontario, Dr. Rorabeck received his medical degree from the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> WesternOntario. Subsequently, he did his orthopaedic surgical training at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Toronto.A past-President <strong>of</strong> the Canadian Orthopaedic Research Society, Dr. Rorabeck served as President <strong>of</strong>the Canadian Orthopaedic Foundation from 1994 to 1998. He was named President <strong>of</strong> the CanadianOrthopaedic Association in 2001. He was also named President <strong>of</strong> the Knee Society in 2003.In addition to being an ABC Travelling Fellow, Dr. Rorabeck has won numerous awards, including theJohn Charnley Award, the Otto Aufranc and Frank Stinchfield awards from the Hip Society, as well as theNicolas Andry Award, as well as, the Ranawat and Insall Awards from the Knee Society. During his academiccareer, Dr. Rorabeck has received more than $3 million in peer reviewed research grants, has two patentedinventions and has collaborated with Dr. Robert Bourne and others on the Ontario Joint ReplacementRegistry, a province-wide program focused on improving access to the results <strong>of</strong> joint replacement surgery.He has been an invited lecturer over 250 times, and a visiting pr<strong>of</strong>essor on 80 occasions, to differentuniversities within the U.S., Canada and abroad. In addition he has participated in numerous instructionalcourses and has published many articles and abstracts.Of his more than 200 published scientific papers, the most recent ones have appeared in The Journal <strong>of</strong>Bone and Joint Surgery, Journal <strong>of</strong> Arthroplasty, as well as Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research.An active participant in London’s volunteer community, Dr. Rorabeck is also a member <strong>of</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong>Directors <strong>of</strong> the Canadian Medical Hall <strong>of</strong> Fame and the London Economic Development Corporation.
