New <strong>Banking</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Finance</strong> Degreefrom the <strong>Open</strong> <strong>Campus</strong> incollaboration with ECIBPROGRAMME DESCRIPTIONThe B.<strong>Sc</strong> <strong>Banking</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Finance</strong> is designed to helplearners develop problem solving <strong>and</strong> collaborativeskills, <strong>and</strong> promote active learning in a culturallydiverse environment. Course facilitators arepractitioners in the field with experience that will equipgraduates to function in a changing Caribbeanfinancial services sector. The programme placesemphasis on the following:1. Development of practical <strong>and</strong> theoretical skillsthat better position learners to respond to theperformance dem<strong>and</strong>s of the sector.2. Practice driven activities <strong>and</strong> sharing of practicalexperiences that are linked to the structure <strong>and</strong>operations of institutions in the banking <strong>and</strong>financial services sector,3. Development of requisite knowledge <strong>and</strong>attitudes, <strong>and</strong> application of functional skillsaimed at enhancing the efficiency <strong>and</strong>effectiveness of operations in the sector.<strong>Banking</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Finance</strong> (B.<strong>Sc</strong>.)WHO IS THIS PROGRAMME FOR?Persons who are currently working in the banking <strong>and</strong>financial services sector, who wish to enhance theirknowledge or advance their career options in this fieldwhile developing practical skills on the job. Theprogramme is also designed to meet the trainingneeds of persons who are interested in starting acareer in the sector.MODE OF DELIVERYA mix of online <strong>and</strong> blended learning modalitiesincluding online tutorials, web conferencing, video<strong>and</strong> audio conferencing. Learners must therefore havecomputer <strong>and</strong> Internet access. Online orientationis conducted before the start of the programme.PROGRAMME STRUCTURE AND CONTENTThis degree option is a “Special”. It comprises 90credits in total, with a minimum of 45 credits overLevels II <strong>and</strong> III. It is designed to develop specialistknowledge in core areas of banking <strong>and</strong> finance <strong>and</strong>provides the grounding required for graduates to befunctionally competent in the field of study.Learners will be expected to complete a total of 90credits, normally equivalent to 30 courses, <strong>and</strong> willexplore courses in a number of areas including:• Accounting• Financial Management• Business Communication• Financial Economics• Ethics <strong>and</strong> Corporate Governance• Credit Analysis• Risk Management• Trust <strong>and</strong> Wealth Management• International Markets <strong>and</strong> Foreign Trade• Law, Statutory Regulations <strong>and</strong>Frameworks• Principles of Lending <strong>and</strong> Underwriting
