Doctorate <strong>of</strong> nursing practiceprepares students to addressissues in scholarly wayThe newly created doctorate <strong>of</strong> nursing practice program — one <strong>of</strong> the firstin the state — will develop a student’s ability to impact the clinical setting asa leader and educator, and to use clinical research to improve and transformhealth care.Jean DavisThis program is based on the understanding that nursing provides servicesincluding the direct care <strong>of</strong> individual clients, management <strong>of</strong> care forpopulations, administration <strong>of</strong> nursing systems and development andimplementation <strong>of</strong> health policy. Advanced practice nurses with practicedoctorates will address significant practice issues in a scholarly way, adoptbroad system perspectives for health promotion and risk reduction, and actas agents <strong>of</strong> change that transform client/community care, participate in theongoing evaluation <strong>of</strong> health care outcomes and assist in the translation <strong>of</strong>research that leads to positive nursing practice changes.<strong>Wayne</strong> <strong>State</strong> is an excellent setting for the program because <strong>of</strong> theuniversity’s access to clinical sites, relationships with multiple health systemsand demand for its graduates.
