Doctorate of nursing practiceprepares students to addressissues in scholarly wayThe newly created doctorate of nursing practice program — one of the firstin the state — will develop a student’s ability to impact the clinical setting asa leader and educator, and to use clinical research to improve and transformhealth care.Jean DavisThis program is based on the understanding that nursing provides servicesincluding the direct care of individual clients, management of care forpopulations, administration of nursing systems and development andimplementation of health policy. Advanced practice nurses with practicedoctorates will address significant practice issues in a scholarly way, adoptbroad system perspectives for health promotion and risk reduction, and actas agents of change that transform client/community care, participate in theongoing evaluation of health care outcomes and assist in the translation ofresearch that leads to positive nursing practice changes.Wayne State is an excellent setting for the program because of theuniversity’s access to clinical sites, relationships with multiple health systemsand demand for its graduates.
