Wound management servicesprovided by RDNS are essential to thesuccessful care of people living in thecommunity with wounds. Our serviceis valuable because we provide theregular technical care required toprevent hospital admissions; wecommonly deliver the majority of thetechnical care required by a client(which other providers may not havethe resources to do); as well asproviding assistance to clients whocannot heal and require maintenanceof their condition and prevention ofwound deterioration.Wound management is a dynamicfield which is continually evolvingwith respect to investigation of themolecular aspects of healing, newtechnologies and treatments, newmodels of care and new ways ofinteracting with clients.A trip through timeRDNS’ rich, colourful and often deeplymoving 125 year history has been broughtto life in a dynamic, new online museum.‘RDNS Reflections’ chronicles the story ofRDNS, honouring and remembering thethousands of nurses, along with our clients,their families, friends and descendents whohave helped write the incredible story ofRDNS since 1885.Current and past staff have participatedopenly and willingly in interviews that formthe basis of ‘RDNS Reflections’ and in theoverall development of this project.A book which highlights these stories hasalso been developed.The research and recordings of staffstories was generously funded by theHelen Macpherson Smith Trust and theinvaluable support of the Danks Trust,Lava Web Creations and the PublicRecords Office Victoria enabled us todevelop the virtual museum and book.Please explore our comprehensive onlinemuseum at www.rdnsreflections.com.au‘RDNS Reflections’ - celebratingour rich historyAnnual report laudedWe recently received news that our 2010Annual Report has won the silver awardfor graphic design in an internationalawards program.Over the last few years our annualreports have been designed by theEducational Resource Centre (ERC)at the <strong>Royal</strong> Children’s Hospital. As amember of the American-based HeSCA(Health and Science CommunicationsAssociation), ERC entered the 2010RDNS Annual Report into HeSCA’sannual awards program.The program provides an internationalforum for health sciences media withthe goal of showcasing and recognisingindividuals and organisations whosework represents the very best in healthsciences media production.The HeSCA awards is judged by leadingbiocommunication professionals. Thecriteria used in evaluating entries aretechnical quality, production valuesand techniques, educational design,technological innovation, creativity, andcraftsmanship of the media product.We are delighted that in such aprestigious awards scheme and againstso many international entries, graphicdesigner Jacqui Glenister, who designedthe 2010 RDNS Annual Report, has beenawarded the silver medal.
