HIV/AIDS projects across <strong>Africa</strong><br />

Hope Worldwide<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> is a key partner in the Men as Partners<br />
(MAP) programme, which is being run by Hope Worldwide<br />
and aims to help men of all ages to identify the role they<br />
can play in fighting AIDS.<br />
<strong>The</strong> US$55,000 grant covers the development and<br />
distribution of marketing communications materials, and<br />
the provision of research support. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong> is also<br />
assisting in executing a major communications campaign<br />
by contributing billboard space and delivering programme<br />
materials.<br />
MAP is encouraging men to take responsibility in the fight<br />
against AIDS in South <strong>Africa</strong>. <strong>The</strong>re are plans to roll out the<br />
programme in other <strong>Africa</strong>n countries.<br />

AIDS orphans<br />
Twenty five thousand <strong>Coca</strong>-<strong>Cola</strong> customers pledged<br />
support for the Starfish <strong>Foundation</strong> through its “Permission<br />
to Give Life” campaign, raising more than RA1.5 million for<br />
AIDS orphans<br />
<strong>The</strong>se funds, combined with a US$230,000 grant from the<br />
<strong>Foundation</strong>, supported the establishment of three Star<br />
Centres across the country. Located in residential areas near<br />
secondary or primary schools, the centres exist to allow<br />
AIDS orphans to drop off siblings on the way to school and<br />
have them looked after in a safe environment.<br />

Day care centre<br />
A US$80,000 <strong>Foundation</strong> grant has assisted the<br />
construction of an AIDS orphanage and day care centre for<br />
abandoned and orphaned HIV+ children in Roodeport,<br />
South <strong>Africa</strong>. Services are provided by the Sparrow<br />
Rainbow Village and the Paediatric and Adult HIV/AIDS<br />
Hospice.<br />
