Holyoke Community College23rd Annual HCC Golf ClassicFoundation Annual reportHCC Memorial DAY 5K Run/walk ChallengeThis year was a year of great physicalactivity for the HCC Foundation staff!We began the year with our traditionalSeptember golf tournament, in its 23rd year.Two very generous donors, board memberWilliam Bagshaw and local attorney FrankFitzgerald, spearheaded a campaign to endowa scholarship in memory ofHCC GOLF Deborah Ferriter. Deb wasCLASSIC a valuable employee in thelegal offices of Fitzgerald &Fitzgerald, PC, and also happened to be veryscholarship inDeb’s memoryfor a deservingveterinarytechnologystudent atthe college.We have oneof the fewveterinarytechnologyprograms inWith the golf tournament detailswrapped up in the fall, we turnedour attention to something a littlefaster…like a road race. President EmeritusDavid Bartley formed a small committee thatmet throughout the winter to plan the firsteverHCC 5K Run/Walk Challenge. Held onMemorial Day, this event raised funds for ournewly opened Veterans Center on campus. Wehad over 100 runners, lots of volunteers, andwhile Mother Nature threatened to disruptthe event, she ultimately provided pleasantrunning conditionsfor our participants.The eventraised nearly$3,000 thatwill be usedto expandprogrammingfor our growingpopulation of student veterans. Our thanks toall the corporations and individuals who madethese events such a success.helpful in assisting the HCC Foundation inthe area andsecuring sponsorships for the tournament. Shethis seemedhad a lifelong love of animals. When she passedlike an excellent way to honor her love ofaway unexpectedly in 2010, we all wanted toanimals and have her legacy continue in ahelp.meaningful way.
