Off. Matthew Kuhnert was recognizedby the SoutheasternPennsylvania Chapter of MothersAgainst Drunk Driving(MADD). Participating in theaward presentation are SupervisorPiero Sassu, Off. Kuhnert,Deb Amoroso of MADD, and PoliceChief Francis Carroll.Operations Plan is an all hazards plan that is required to bereviewed and updated periodically.In preparation for the Limerick Nuclear Generating Station(LNGS) drill in August of <strong>2007</strong>, a comprehensive review wasconducted of the <strong>Township</strong>’s plan. On August 7, <strong>2007</strong>, theplan was put into practice through a drill that was monitoredby the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency(PEMA). Participants in the drill included <strong>Township</strong> staffand volunteers representing a variety of disciplines. Thereport submitted by the PEMA monitor commended the<strong>Township</strong>’s preparation and implementation of the variouscomponents of the plan during the drill.SPECIAL RECOGNITIONPersonnel of the Police Department distinguished themselvesby being professionally recognized for their service to thecommunity throughout the year:• Chief Francis L. Carroll received the “Law and OrderAward” from the Schuylkill Alliance Chamber ofCommerce.• Off. Matthew L. Kuhnert was recognized by theSoutheastern Pennsylvania Chapter of MothersAgainst Drunk Driving (MADD) for his efforts in theenforcement of the driving under the influence laws.This was the second consecutive year that Off. Kuhnertwas presented with this award.• Off. Mark A. Stead was honored by the <strong>Lower</strong> <strong>Providence</strong>Optimist Club with their “Respect for Law Award.”• Det. Michael Jackson being named “Drug Task ForceOfficer of the Year” by the Montgomery County DistrictAttorney’s Office Drug Task Force.A particularly notable achievement duringthe year was the graduation of Lt. StanleyM. Turtle from the prestigious FederalBureau of Investigation National Academyin Quantico, VA. Less than one percent ofall law enforcement personnel have theopportunity to be nominated and attend theAcademy. Lt. Turtle joins present departmentmembers Det. Sgt. Daniel F. McCabe, Sgt.Stanley J. Siuchta and Chief Francis L. Carrollas graduates of the program.<strong>Lower</strong> <strong>Providence</strong> <strong>Township</strong> continually strives to provideexcellent police services to <strong>Township</strong> residents, businesses andvisitors. For information on services and programs providedby the police department, please contact 610-539-5900 orvisit www.lowerprovidence.org.Fighting Cyber CrimeThe <strong>Lower</strong> <strong>Providence</strong> <strong>Township</strong> Police Department, in an effort to keep pace with today’stechnologically savvy criminals, is a participating agency in the Philadelphia Regional ComputerForensics Laboratory (PHRCFL), a partnership between the FBI and state and locallaw enforcement agencies. The state-of-the-art laboratory is devoted to the examinationof digital evidence in support of criminal investigations. As a participating agency, <strong>Lower</strong><strong>Providence</strong> receives training and assistance with digital evidence collection and preservation.The PHRCFL supports investigations into such crimes as child pornography, Internetcrimes, terrorism, fraud, and crimes of violence.2 0 0 7 A N N U A L R E P O R T 13
