Theuse of symbols or numbers may make it necessary to add a 246.We drop the initial articles in the 246 because there are no indicators to allow us toignore them.Indicator 1 – If you can look at the 245 and 246 together and see why the 246 wasneeded, no note is needed and a 3 is used for the 1 st indicator. Example thenumerals 101 dalmatians or one hundred one dalmatians. Before we could use the246 tag for books we had to put in a note to say that the cover or spine title was xxxand then we listed that title in an accessible field (at that time the 740). Now wedon’t use the note because the indicators generate a display on the OPAC to tellwhere the title came from.34
