Howdy y’all!<br />
We’re excited <strong>and</strong> h<strong>on</strong>ored to welcome you to Give Hunger the Boot,<br />
our first annual fundraiser to benefit <str<strong>on</strong>g>Meals</str<strong>on</strong>g> On <strong>Wheels</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Stark</strong> &<br />
<strong>Wayne</strong> <strong>Counties</strong> <strong>and</strong> Shared Blessings. We invite you to relax, kick up<br />
your heels, <strong>and</strong> have a rootin’, tootin’ good time as we join together to help<br />
eliminate hunger in our community.<br />
T<strong>on</strong>ight we h<strong>on</strong>or three individuals who are the true “pi<strong>on</strong>eers” <strong>of</strong><br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>Meals</str<strong>on</strong>g> On <strong>Wheels</strong> - William Belden Jr., Stanley Cmich, <strong>and</strong> Jane Schirack.<br />
It was their visi<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> leadership in 1973 that led to the creati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> a meal<br />
program that became <str<strong>on</strong>g>Meals</str<strong>on</strong>g> On <strong>Wheels</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Stark</strong> & <strong>Wayne</strong> <strong>Counties</strong>. Their<br />
persistence <strong>and</strong> determinati<strong>on</strong> 40 years ago assured nutriti<strong>on</strong>ally at-risk<br />
residents <strong>of</strong> our communities that they would not go hungry.<br />
<str<strong>on</strong>g>Meals</str<strong>on</strong>g> On <strong>Wheels</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Stark</strong> & <strong>Wayne</strong> <strong>Counties</strong> delivers thous<strong>and</strong>s <strong>of</strong><br />
meals each week to homebound individuals who are nutriti<strong>on</strong>ally at-risk.<br />
Thanks to the hard work <strong>of</strong> dedicated staff <strong>and</strong> volunteers, more than 11<br />
milli<strong>on</strong> meals have been served over the years. However, recent cutbacks<br />
in government programs have affected the agency’s ability to functi<strong>on</strong> as<br />
before. The proceeds from t<strong>on</strong>ight’s fundraiser will ensure that this important<br />
work will c<strong>on</strong>tinue.<br />
Many <strong>of</strong> the committee members who helped organize this event bel<strong>on</strong>g<br />
to Shared Blessings, a Cant<strong>on</strong>-area n<strong>on</strong>-pr<strong>of</strong>it organizati<strong>on</strong> dedicated to<br />
helping those who are less fortunate. In recogniti<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> their help <strong>and</strong> <strong>on</strong><br />
their behalf, a porti<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> t<strong>on</strong>ight’s proceeds will benefit the food programs<br />
at Cant<strong>on</strong> Calvary Missi<strong>on</strong>, the Massill<strong>on</strong> Salvati<strong>on</strong> Army, <strong>and</strong> Refuge<br />
<strong>of</strong> Hope Ministries.<br />
Your participati<strong>on</strong> t<strong>on</strong>ight will help us in our collective missi<strong>on</strong> to “Give<br />
Hunger the Boot” in <strong>Stark</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Wayne</strong> counties.<br />
With gratitude,<br />
