Investment in buildings and infrastructure
The Departmental Equipment Committee agreed £93k
for equipment bids including CCTV upgrades for the
Library and Museum as well as items of laboratory
equipment. Additional funds were found to replace the
workshop and aviaries following the damage caused by
a falling tree at the Sub-Department. The Department

committed more than £36k for upgrading the IT link to
the Sub-Department and for installing the new VOIP
telephone system and the wireless Lapwing service.
The former lecture theatre in the Austin Building was
converted into new office space for the research group
of Prof. Derek Smith. Work on the new Elementary
Genetics Laboratory at Madingley (a shared facility with
Genetics) progressed smoothly.
