Eligibility for a <strong>Refund</strong>As a <strong>TRS</strong> member, if you permanently terminateemployment with your <strong>TRS</strong>-covered employer(s)and have neither applied for nor received a promise ofemployment with a <strong>TRS</strong>-covered employer, you may terminatemembership in <strong>TRS</strong> and withdraw all of the accumulatedcontributions in your member account. Partialwithdrawals are not allowed. Terminating your <strong>TRS</strong>account also terminates all service credit with <strong>TRS</strong>.Exception: If you are serving as a substitute andare not employed in any other capacity with a <strong>TRS</strong>coveredemployer, you may withdraw your accumulatedcontributions.Options to Consider Before<strong>Requesting</strong> a <strong>Refund</strong>The decision to seek a refund of your member contributionsis an important one, and it may significantlyimpact you in a number of ways including the loss of certaintypes of credit which must be continuously maintainedand once refunded, members cannot repurchasethis service credit at a later date. In addition, if youresume <strong>TRS</strong> membership at a later date, you will be subjectto new retirement eligibility criteria. Therefore, it isadvisable to consider all options available to you beforemaking a decision.
