In the event of danger<br />
Anybody who travels on the road will have to face a dangerous situation sooner or later. That’s why a range of systems has been developed for the <strong>CLS</strong> to help avoid<br />
possible accidents.<br />
PRE-SAFE® Brake (optional in conjunction with<br />
DISTRONIC PLUS). As a three-stage warning and braking<br />
system, the PRE-SAFE® Brake can intervene prior to<br />
an impending rear-end collision: if there is no reaction<br />
from the driver following an initial visual and audible<br />
warning, the system can initiate autonomous partial<br />
braking as a haptic warning. If there is still no reaction<br />
from the driver, autonomous emergency braking can<br />
be initiated. The PRE-SAFE® Brake then reacts around<br />
0.6 seconds before an accident deemed unavoidable<br />
and initiates emergency braking to reduce the impact<br />
speed and the severity of the collision.<br />
Brake Assist BAS PLUS (optional in conjunction with<br />
DISTRONIC PLUS). Brake Assist BAS PLUS in conjunction<br />
with the PRE-SAFE® Brake can help to prevent<br />
rear-end collisions. The anticipatory system uses radar<br />
sensors to evaluate driving situations autonomously<br />
and, if needed, provides extra braking power based on<br />
the distance to the vehicle in front and the relative<br />
speed. If the radar sensors detect a potential collision<br />
and the driver applies the brakes in time, BAS PLUS<br />
is primed to apply braking pressure in accordance with<br />
the available stopping distance. Furthermore, when<br />
the brakes are applied abruptly, the brake lights start<br />
flashing to warn the traffic behind.<br />
PRE-SAFE® system (standard). As a precaution, the<br />
PRE-SAFE® system can activate protective measures –<br />
for example reversible tensioning of the driver and<br />
passenger seat belts as well as automatic closing of the<br />
open windows and/or the optional sliding sunroof –<br />
depending on the driving situation and the vehicle<br />
equipment.<br />
The anticipatory occupant protection system PRE-SAFE® can recognise<br />
critical driving situations and initiate preventive measures in order to<br />
protect the occupants
