<strong>Prevention</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sexual</strong> <strong>Violence</strong> on CampusAn Assessment ToolACHA’s “Position Statement on Preventing <strong>Sexual</strong> <strong>Violence</strong> on <strong>College</strong> and University Campuses” recommends the following15 actions be taken to address policy, prevention, and intervention as it pertains to sexual violence. <strong>College</strong> healthpr<strong>of</strong>essionals, who are in a powerful position to prevent campus sexual violence, are encouraged to use the assessment toolbelow periodically to note your institution’s level <strong>of</strong> completion <strong>of</strong> each action. Once the assessment is completed, the informationshould be shared with administrators, faculty, staff, and students. This simple tool can also guide your campus efforts atprimary prevention <strong>of</strong> sexual violence.Action yet to be addressedCompleted1. Develop a policy statement and directive from thepresident/chancellor <strong>of</strong> the institution that demonstratesrecognition <strong>of</strong> sexual violence as a problem, a commitmentto reduce its occurrence, and action steps for the campuscommunity.1 2 3 4 52. Develop a multidisciplinary task force on campus to addresssexual violence prevention and response services thatincludes high-level campus administration, academic leaders,student leaders, and community partners.3. Create policies that reflect an expectation <strong>of</strong> civility, honor,respect, and nonviolence for all members <strong>of</strong> the communityand encourage behaviors that build a sense <strong>of</strong> community.4. Revise, enforce, and widely distribute disciplinary regulationsin the student code that demonstrate an intolerance<strong>of</strong> all forms <strong>of</strong> sexual violence and implement sanctions forviolations by faculty, staff, and students.5. Educate disciplinary boards on non-stranger assaults, perpetratorpatterns, and possible victim responses and patterns.6. Provide comprehensive training on all aspects <strong>of</strong> sexualviolence for campus administrators; campus law enforcement;health and counseling services staff; faculty; staff; and studentleaders that includes the dynamics <strong>of</strong> sexual violence,access to care, victim response, and federal/state statutes.7.
