OUR FOUNDERISABEL BLOOMBorn in 1908, Isabel Scherer began sculpting with clay as ayoung child. Creative and curious she briefly studied painting atthe Art Institute of Chicago before studying sculpture at theStone City Art Colony under American Master, Grant Wood inthe early 30’s. It was there she met a gifted artist, John Bloomwho would later become her husband in 1938.Inspired by her experience at Stone City, Isabel continuedsculpting. Her subjects ranged from animals and children towhimsical figures of mermaids and strong portrayals of women.In the late 40’s and 50’s, Isabel began experimenting with herart, replicating the bronze sculpture of the Victorian era usingconcrete or cast stone. She developed the technique of “greening”by mixing blue and green dyes with water and fine whitepowdered cement to resemble the bronze and green shades ofVictorian garden sculpture she so admired. It was then whenshe developed her own technique which is the same basicprocess still used by the company today.In recent years, the selection of finishes has expanded to includeweathered bronze, green, vintage rose, garden moss rose,multicolor and verdigris.
