<strong>goalball</strong> - <strong>modified</strong>Organising the game■■Scoring■■Three points are awarded for a goal.■■One point is awarded for a block.■■The winning team can be the first to reach a numberof points (e.g. 50 points); first to 11 in best of threesets or that scores the most points within a timelimit (e.g. 5 minutes).■■The opposition receive the ball if players do not keepto these rules.■■Players can move anywhere within their ‘team zone’to throw the ball.■■Underarm throwing/rolling only no kicking■■When the ball is thrown, it must land before the endof their ‘team zone’.■■No player is to have two consecutive shots.■■To block a shot, a defending player must have atleast one body part (e.g. hand or foot) touchingtheir mat.■■Players remove eyeshadesThink inclusivelySpace■■Adjust the space to challenge or support players;for example, reducing the space gives player lessreaction time.Task■■Score-based: increase/decrease the amount of pointsa team requires to win.■■Time-based: increase/decrease the duration of thegame.Equipment■■Change the size of the ball.People■■Increase/decrease the number of players on a team(between one to five players). Available court size maydetermine this.■■Visually-impaired groups or individuals with visualimpairments and all others playing with them mustplay with eyeshades and bell balls. However, usediscretion to encourage participation; for example,hearing-impaired players play without eyeshades butmust remain in contact with their mat.■■Wheelchair users can use their chair to block the ball.Keeping it enjoyable■ ■ Listen, decide, dive.■■Play without eyeshades to begin with, then introduceeyeshades as understanding of the game increases.■■Increase/decrease the number ofplayers on a team.
