Copacabana“Her name was Lola….”Amid a flurry of feathers and sequins, <strong>Loyola</strong><strong>College</strong> was proud to present their 2009 MusicalProduction of Barry Manilow’s Copacabana in thesecond week of August, at Plenty Ranges Arts andConvention Centre.Copacabana impressed audiences with toe-tappingmusical numbers and eye-popping dance routines thatexploded on stage, led by the “Copa Show-girls” and“Cool Cats” of the nightclub scene in 1940s New York.The story of Lola La Mar (Natalie Cecchin, Year 12)and Tony Forte (Nicholas Hedger, Year 12), played outagainst the backdrop of the glitzy Copcabana nightclubin New York and the hazy sunset of Havana, Cuba.The audience were absorbed into the glamorous world ofthe 1940s, brought to life by intriguing characters suchas the sleazy Rico Castelli (Nicholas Eynaud, Year 11),his long-suffering girlfriend, Conchita Alverez (BiancaFarinaccia, Year 12), the gruff Sam Silver (NikolasMitchell, Year 10) and sassy ex-copa girl, Gladys Murphy(Nadia Conte, Year 12).Copacabana was just another showcase of theextraordinary talent in dance, drama and music at<strong>Loyola</strong> <strong>College</strong>, and the high standard of performancethat the <strong>College</strong> prides itself on delivering.Miss Jade Scibilia and Mrs Michelle Denni(Producers/Directors)4
