Mathematics (MAT)<br />

MAT <strong>12</strong>13. COLLEGE MATHEMATICS I (3 hours credit) This course is designed<br />

to develop for the student the mathematical concepts and techniques for a program in<br />

general education. The basic concepts of arithmetic and an introduction to the fundamentals<br />

of elementary algebra are presented. The student may be counseled and/or<br />

tested prior to enrollment in this course. Placement is also made with an Enhanced<br />

ACT math score below 17.<br />

MAT <strong>12</strong>33. INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA (3 hours credit) Topics include linear<br />

equations and their graphs, inequalities and number line graphs, rational expressions,<br />

factoring, exponents, radicals and polynomials. Prerequisite: One year of high school algebra<br />

and demonstrated proficiency on placement test, MAT <strong>12</strong>13 with grade of “C” or<br />

higher or Enhanced ACT math score of 17 or 18.<br />

MAT 1313. COLLEGE ALGEBRA (3 hours credit) This course includes a study of<br />

inequalities, functions, linear and quadratic equations, circles and their graphs, applications,<br />

polynomial and rational functions, logarithmic and exponential functions, and<br />

systems of equations. Prerequisite: Two years of high school algebra (Algebra I, II) and<br />

Enhanced ACT math score of at least 19, two years of high school algebra and demonstrated<br />

proficiency on a placement test or MAT <strong>12</strong>33 with grade of “C” or higher.<br />

MAT 1323. TRIGONOMETRY (3 hours credit) A study of trigonometric functions<br />

and their graphs, functions of composite angles, fundamental relations, trigonometric<br />

equations, radian measurement, solutions of right and oblique triangles, inverse<br />

trigonometric functions and applications. Prerequisite: MAT 1313 with grade of “C” or<br />

higher or Enhanced ACT math score of 20 or higher.<br />

MAT 1343. PRE-CALCULUS (3 hours credit) A review of college algebra and<br />

trigonometry in preparation for Calculus I. Topics include functions; solving equations;<br />

logarithmic and exponential functions; trigonometric functions; solving trigonometric<br />

equations. Prerequisite: MAT 1313 with grade of “C” or higher or Enhanced ACT<br />

math score of 20 or higher.<br />

MAT 1513. BUSINESS CALCULUS I (3 hours credit) A study of functions, limits,<br />

continuity, derivatives, and their applications to business and economics. Prerequisite:<br />

MAT 1313 with grade of “C” or higher or Enhanced ACT math score of 22 or higher.<br />

MAT 1523. BUSINESS CALCULUS II (3 hours credit) A study of antiderivatives,<br />

techniques of integration, applications of the definite integral, extrema, and applications<br />

to business and economics. Prerequisite: MAT 1513 with grade of “C” or higher.<br />

MAT 1613. CALCULUS I (3 hours credit) Includes limits, continuity, the definition<br />

of the derivative, differentiation, applications, and antiderivatives. Prerequisite: Enhanced<br />

ACT math score of 22 or higher and high school trigonometry or high school<br />

pre-calculus, or MAT 1313 and MAT 1323 with grades of “C” or higher or MAT 1343<br />

with a grade of “C” or higher.<br />

MAT 1623. CALCULUS II (3 hours credit) This course includes a study of the definite<br />

integral, differentiation and integration of transcendental functions, techniques of<br />

integration, and applications. Prerequisite: MAT 1613 with grade of “C” or higher.<br />

MAT 1723. REAL NUMBER SYSTEM (3 hours credit) Designed for elementary<br />

and special education majors, this course includes set theory, numeration systems, foundations<br />

of number theory, and properties and operations of real numbers. Prerequisite:<br />

Enhanced ACT math score of 17 or higher and two years of high school algebra, MAT<br />

<strong>12</strong>33 with grade of “C” or higher or demonstrated proficiency on a placement test.<br />
