D. in Applied Statistics. As Chair of the Ph. D. Committee and later as Chair of the Department, I was instrumental in drafting the proposal for a Ph.D. program in Applied Statistics. The program was approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and implemented in the Fall of 2006. The program is one of a few doctoral programs in Statistics in Texas and the only program of its kind in the South Texas region. Vita for Nandini Kannan program is a partnership between UTSA and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Master’s program in Applied Statistics. I prepared the proposal for a new Applied Statistics graduate program. The program was approved by the Coordinating board in 2008. This program emphasizes methodology and the use of software and computational tools to analyze large datasets. Students with these skills are in high demand in the growing health, biotechnology, and financial industries in this region and the program will help our students be competitive.
