Dear Donors and Friends,On behalf of the Board of Governors of the International Community Foundation, it is our pleasure totransmit this 2009 Annual Report. Despite the global economic downturn, we are pleased to announcethat 2009 was a year of steady and measured progress for our foundation. The generosity of individualdonors along with gifts from corporate and foundation donors produced over $6.8 million in giftsresulting in $5.2 million in grants to 51 nonprofit organizations outside of the United States. These grantsprovided critical operational and programmatic support to nonprofits in the areas of education, healthand human services, the environment and arts and culture. Close to 80% of our foundation’s grantsbenefited public charities in Mexico.In our effort to promote expanded cross-border philanthropy to Mexico, over thepast year our foundation has expanded its collaboration with Mexican communityfoundations. Working together with Fundación Internacional de la Comunidad, oursister foundation in Tijuana, we jointly produced and released the first ever guidefor in-kind donations between the United States and Mexico Through ourpartnership with the Oaxaca Community Foundation, our foundation exceeded itstwo year goal by raising over $332,000 in support of productive employmentprojects in Oaxaca. Our foundation also played a critical leadership role in servingas the fiscal sponsor for the U.S.-Mexico Border Philanthropy Partnership, anorganization committed to promoting expanded community philanthropy along theU.S.-Mexico border.During the past year, our foundation established the International CommunityFoundation Center, a new supporting organization co-located at our headquartersin National City, CA. The Center has a three-fold mission, including the expansion ofcross-border civic engagement between San Diego & Baja California; the promotionof healthy border communities; and maintaining the cultural heritage of NationalCity and San Diego’s South Bay region.On the eve of our 20th Anniversary year, our small but passionate team is proud of committed donorsand friends like you who are continuing to loyally support the many internationally based publiccharities that we fund on a year to year basis.
