Scottish by birth <strong>and</strong> trained in GreatBritain, she creates site-specific installations, <strong>of</strong>ten using organic <strong>and</strong> ephemeralmaterials as her medium. Past projects have included arranging a ton <strong>of</strong> oranges ona floor, placing a thirty-two ton block <strong>of</strong> ice in a boiler room, <strong>and</strong> painting a wall withchocolate. The nature <strong>of</strong> these materials results in natural processes <strong>of</strong> transformation<strong>and</strong> decay, <strong>of</strong>ten with unpredictable results, relating as much to the history <strong>of</strong>performance as to sculpture <strong>and</strong> installation.The annual Studio Conversations series, presented by <strong>Moore</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong> & <strong>Design</strong>, feature leadingartists <strong>and</strong> critics who discuss artistic issues <strong>and</strong> practice across media <strong>and</strong> international boundaries.Supporting <strong>Moore</strong>’s MFA in Studio <strong>Art</strong>, which includes an international residency <strong>and</strong> international visitingguest faculty, the conversations are intended to address the emerging globalization <strong>and</strong> internationalization<strong>of</strong> the art world <strong>and</strong> what this means for artistic practice in the 21st century.Presented in cooperation with The Galleries at <strong>Moore</strong> <strong>and</strong> in partnership withThe International Sculpture Center <strong>and</strong> Sculpture Magazine.Event is Free<strong>and</strong>Cover: Anya Gallaccio Intensities <strong>and</strong> Surfaces, 1996, installation at Wapping Power Station, London.Photo courtesy the artist.
