ReportSiloette-Zori4-Shiro, Photo: Melissa RiviereB-Girl BeA Celebration of women in HiphopIt is the second time that the event was held andalso the second time that I have been invited toparticipate in as a visual artist, graffiti artist, andguest speaker. The event was put together by women organizersfrom Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis Minnesota,USA.Women from all over the world who are graffiti artists, breakdancers, mc’s, and deejay’s were invitedto showcase their skills and individual style.I was part of the all women graffiti wall productionlead by an amazing artist I had the pleasureto finally meet, Faith47 from Capetown Africa. Some of the women involved were Shiro fromJapan, Zori 4 from Puerto Rico, Siloette fromArizona, Femme 9 from Kansas City, Stef fromChicago, Rust, Lush Girl, and Shye, from Minneapolis,Muck, and legendary graffiti artist LadyAction photos: Molly Hein12

Faith47, Photo: Melissa RiviereToofly has a posse, Photo: Alice MizrachiPink from New York.A lot of us have known each other frompainting in our own cities, and from ourtravels to each other’s home town. For allthe new girls we met this year I was especiallyhappy to connect and build withthem for the first time too.Everyone from the organizers, to the visualartists, to the breakers and the girlswho rocked the mic’s, made this event ahuge success! It was important, and relevant to mepersonally, as well as the people in mycommunity to witness history in themaking.I am always inspired when women get togetherand create. It opens the door for somany collective ideas that we oursleves can takeback into our hoods and build with.Young women in my hood, especially these daysneed to know that they have alternative ideas ofwhat a strong, and confident women can do. Especiallyif she is skilled in her craft, loves what shedoes, and represents herself truthfully. We needthat more than ever, and that’s why events likethis need to happen throughout the world. B-GirlBe opened the door for us to come together andcelebrate what we love to do, money or no money. That’s what Hip Hop Culture is all about!Peace,TOOFLY, NYCSites to see:www.intermediaarts.orgwww.tooflydesign.comPhoto: Molly HeinPhoto: Alice MizrachiPhoto: Toofly13

New MediaStreet Art -Die Stadt als Spielplatz„Street art is hip and books concerningthis subject are as well. Designers areinspired by Street art aesthetics, andlikewise, streetartists are inspired bythe code and forms of media and massconsumption. The subversive aspect ofStreet art, as a part of the resistanceand society criticism, is in most publicationshowever only barely brought up fordiscussion. Or only gloryfied as a coolattitude. Attitudes and aesthetics of therevolutionary are easily copied by brandssuch as Nike, Adidas and Sony, with their‘streetwise’ advertisements. With theirbook ‘Street art, The city as a playground’Daniela Krause and Christian Heinickeattempt to not only show the aestheticsof Street art, but also to show a broaderview to the phenomenon. They did’tmake book with the reserved view of ascientist, but as a participating observer.”Kris Krois in: SocialspeciallySites to seewww.km4042.de and www.jugendkulturen.de
