The margin of victory, 88 runs, couldhave been reduced considerably if Trinity’s fielding, especially in the out-field, had reached anything like firstclassstandards.N.LC.C. batted first on apitch that favoured batsmenrather than bowlers, and beforelunch 119 runs were on theboard. After lunch, however, the rate of scoring dropped andthe side was all out for 215.Dawson took four wickets, butone felt that more than one ofthese successes was due to mistakesby the batsmen ratherthan any particular skill on thebowler’s part. Coker, who attimes bowled with penetration, and Harkness also captured twowickets each.At the close of play onMonday evening, Trinity werein a not impossible position, with the score at 46 for two.B. K. Wilson had been 1.b.w. tomedium-pace bowler Hewitt, and I. Steen had been caughtbehind the wicket off the samebowler. On Tuesday, however, few ofthe remaining Trinity batsmenapart fram Coker and Harrison, displayed any skill or determinationand the innings closedwith the score at 135.Trinity’s bowling improvedconsiderably during the N.I.C.C.second innings. Drewery hadthe good figures of 5 for 18,and bowled accurately, allowingthe batsmen little opportunityto score freely. Such was hissuccess that with eight wicketsdown, N.I.C.C. had only compiled116 run.Trinity were left with 197runs to make in the remainingBe Smart for TrinityWeek !your frock, blouse orshirt can be washedby1II|THE COURT LAUNDRY |Ipish Bicycle IndustPies Ltd., DublinINTERESTED INMOTORING ?ILECTURESII: FILMS : DRIVING COURSESSELF-DRIVE CARSt£me, but never looked likereaching the required total. Oneoustanding feature, however, was the batting of T. P. Smith, who, fresh from his interprovincialexperience, hit 57runs out of a Trinity total of108. He scored freely all roundthe wicket, and displayed awide range of elegant strokes. If Trinity wish to maintaintheir position in the league,an all-round improvement isurgently needed. Greater consistencyin the batting andbowling and m u c h morealertness in the field areessential; whatever the reasonsare for batting and bowlingfailures, there can be no excusefor slack fielding.RowingOne All -- No DeciderAt Lough Erne on Thursday, the 1st eight defeated a PortoraRoyal School eight by one anda quarter lengths.
